2. My plywood has been cut and pre-fit to my windows and numbered.
My generator is working and I have propane for my camp stove. I think I'm ready. I think Virginia might get one this year.

3. Even for those of us inland...
we're not safe from hurricanes and need to be prepared. Fortunately I live well above ground level so flooding isn't a concern, but keeping safe food and water for the cats and myself is. The camp stove is a great idea, especially since I have all electric appliances.

5. Yeah, they predicted less than we had last year
But, more than they predicted last year. We had double what they predicted last year.

That's why I'm getting an extra case of vodka this year.

I live about 3 miles inland from the Gulf of Mexico, and across the street from the Anclote River.

11. Oh, looky. NYC in the Very High.
Until last year, I was never frightened of weather. I have nothing but contempt for bin Ladin. But the thought of another Katrina fills me with terror.

25. so accuweather say
accuweather also say we'll have the risk shift east as early as july, so if the texas to louisiana gulf coast is not hit by mid july we can supposedly breathe a sigh of relief as the most likely strikes will be south florida or the atlantic coast

skeptical of this, our high risk season in louisiana would generally be last week of august thru the first three weeks of september

be that as it may nyc will inevitably be hit at some point in time because of its size and location, it actually sticks out there, like florida or something, at least new orleans is upriver

we just have to hope the hit won't come in our lifetimes because the destruction to life and economy would be devastating, i don't even know how people would get away in time from a strike on manhattan

28. We actually do have designated high ground locations.
The city has been divided up into zones of risk so they know who to warn. The city's website encourages everyone to have a bag ready containing vital papers and other necessary items.

The one thing we know, that all cities know who have come thru hell, we know what we'll do...and that's help each other.

Water is being stocked up in the garage, batteries are already here, Propane is full and ready. I just need to be buying gas every couple of days or so...I am not going to run out this year, I am not going to stand in 8 hour lines.

23. Generator tip - propane is much easier to get than gas - so
you might want to purchase a converter for your generator. It really doesn't save that much money in fuel, but it is easier to store and re-fill after a disaster.

We got one.
