Work Harder - Millions on Welfare Depend on You
That's a bumper sticker I saw on a work van yesterday.... It would have been more accurate if it stated that "Corporate Welfare Depends on You." Whatever the case, the sticker is disgusting and WRONG!

1. Give them all decent paying jobs
including the corporate thieves, which collect theri dividends and pay a lower tax rate than most wage earners.

2. More like MillionAIRES on welfare depend on you.
This is a typical Reaganite meme of the 80s that's not only hyperbolic, but phenomenally stupid considering many of the welfare billions get doled out to corporations over the people who actually need it.

3. my mechanic has a sign with that sayin on it
someone has to pay for the dole. (remember Ned Flanders from the Simpson? His kid asked him why they needed to pay taxes. He replies, 'to pay for roads, schools, and hospitals. Plus, taxes support those Americans that just don't feel like workin, God Bless them!')

10. I was about to post that I've seen the OP's bumpersticker on old beaters
driven by working class people. I think of it as a sign of a sober understanding that hard work doesn't always translate into getting ahead.

What I find disheartening is when people I knew from childhood who were raised on the dole to one degree or another have this sense that their tax money pays for the 'lazy bums' without remembering that the label was once applied to their own parents.

5. Agreed...
A few Fun Facts:

At this time Welfare, or Temporary Aid To Needy Families ~ is using about 2% of our budget. while corporate welfare on the other hand, is using literally thousands of times more in tax breaks, outright subsidizing, and contracts given where they actually make communities worse by the time they are done with it either financially, pollution-wise, or with rampant unemployment after they are through with the residents and move to China (some that come to mind are corporate giants such as WalMart, Boeing, KB&R and many others). And we won't EVEN mention the cost of the wars being waged and how much of our tax dollars this is taking...

Welfare recipients on the other hand before welfare reform: On 4% of the budget, 70% of mothers graduated from college, less than 2 years on the program average, the only "inter-generational welfare" was where poverty and racism flourished, less than 2 children were in a family, and when welfare was in its hayday with the War on Poverty in the '60s and '70s, it helped to lift millions of families of color off of welfare and into the middle class.

Now they do not even know or care what happens to an American welfare mom when she is forced to take a minimum wage McJob and is not allowed to go to school ~ but it does not take any rocket scientist to see what did happen. Remember welfare and food stamps are no longer allowed to go to even legal immigrants. Poverty has increased, no healthcare for all, homelessness on the rise, and hunger as well as obesity (from lack of proper diets) are on the rise. Huh, what a mystery!

Remember a few of these facts when some beer-gutted redneck or coifed rich person tries to pretend outrage at the poor.

I wish we could put all that on a bumper sticker, but then liberals understand the fine points and don't simplify as much as some elitist, selfish, Un-American right wing nuts do.

My 2 cents
