30 dead since new year's Day-how do we respond?
http://michaelmoore.com/mustread/index.php?id=582

Since the new year began 30 American soldiers have been killed in Iraq. Some by bullets, many by bombs, others by road accidents. Each leaves behind a family reeling in grief and a wasted future. The loses are only numbing to those who do not pay attention.

George Bush's response is more of the same, and a warning that any elected official who challenges his reckless, immoral policies will be punished. Sadly our Philadelphia media's response is to relegate Iraq to pages further and further from the attention of the front page.

What is your response?

1. What happened to Murtha's proprosal to redeploy?
http://www.house.gov/apps/list/press/pa12_murtha/pr_051117_iraqres.html

For Immediate Release
November 17, 2005

To Redeploy U.S. Forces from Iraq.
IN THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES

MR. MURTHA introduced the following joint resolution:

(H. J. Res._________ )-

To Redeploy U.S. Forces from Iraq.

IN THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES

MR. MURTHA introduced the following joint resolution, which was referred to the Committee on ____________________________

Whereas Congress and the American People have not been shown clear, measurable progress toward establishment of stable and improving security in Iraq or of a stable and improving economy in Iraq, both of which are essential to "promote the emergence of a democratic government";

Whereas additional stabilization in Iraq by U.S. military forces cannot be achieved without the deployment of hundreds of thousands of additional U.S. troops, which in turn cannot be achieved without a military draft;

Whereas more than $277 billion has been appropriated by the United States Congress to prosecute U.S. military action in Iraq and Afghanistan;

Whereas, as of the drafting of this resolution, 2,079 U.S. troops have been killed in Operation Iraqi Freedom;

Whereas U.S. forces have become the target of the insurgency;

Whereas, according to recent polls, over 80% of the Iraqi people want the U.S. forces out of Iraq;

Whereas polls also indicate that 45% of the Iraqi people feel that the attacks on U.S. forces are justified;

Whereas, due to the foregoing, Congress finds it evident that continuing U.S. military action in Iraq is not in the best interests of the United States of America, the people of Iraq, or the Persian Gulf Region, which were cited in Public Law 107-243 as justification for undertaking such action;

Therefore be it

1) Resolved by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America in
2)  Congress assembled,
3) That:
4) Section 1.  The deployment of United States forces in Iraq, by direction of Congress, is
5) hereby terminated and the forces involved are to be redeployed at the earliest practicable
6) date.
7) Section 2. A quick-reaction U.S. force and an over-the-horizon presence of U.S. Marines
8)  shall be deployed in the region.
9) Section 3. The United States of America shall pursue security and stability in Iraq
10)  through diplomacy.

2. I thought the families only felt pride that their loved one becomes
a hero for Bush. The way Bush tells it Cindy Sheehan is the only person who has a problem with sending a family member to the celestial kingdom for the glory of our country. I think somewhere Bush declaired our guys get 18 virgins. I suppose our female soldiers get some kind of special exaulted restored virginity, they couldn't be getting 19 stud-muffins. It's glorious to die for your country. No families care, they get 10,000 life insurance, they are happy...bush says. And we must believe him or we are anti american.

3. Just wait a little.
Soon the only news story will be Iraq. No more SC hearings, no more elections in Iraq, holidays are over and the November election in our country is starting. Their business is to sell news. Their most sellable stories will be about casualties in Iraq soon.

I really think - sadly - all hell is about to break lose over there.

This president has put our kids dead in the middle of another countries civil war.

One thing is true, you can't win a civil war for someone else - they could win. At best you could limit your losses. He is not going to do that.

If these thoughts are correct, we will take back the senate and the house. And if we do, our president is very deep dodo. He knows it, too.

Joe

6. Sign Wes Clarks petition to help get armor for the troops.
It will save lives. Vote up the thread, too.

Of course, we don't belong in Iraq at all, but please help protect the troops while they are there.
