Am I the only one who can't stand Jeanine Garofalo?
I like listening to Sam Seder on The Majority Report but I can't stand listening to Jeanine Garofalo. Sam seems very articulate and very willing to listen to callers who have questions about democratic party positions. Jeanine just seems to rant all the time which, for me, gets old. She doesn't seem to articulate a point but instead goes into different tangents.

For example,
Today when I was listening a caller called in and said he was an avid fox news watcher and a republican, but was no pleased with Bush. He was frankly unaware of the democratic positions and was wondering why he didn't know and what the positions were. Sam calmly explained that the positions are out there but watching fox news would ensure he'd never find that out. Sam then asked the caller to give him an issue and Sam would tell him what dems have done or are trying to do. He also calmly explained to the caller that because the republicans control both houses dems can't really do anything. Was a good conversation and it seemed like the caller was listening and was open to information. Then Jeanine gets on and starts spouting, in a pretty combative way I think, how the conservative media is out to ruin america and that the caller should wake up and blah blah blah. I turned it off after that.

Am I the only one who gets this out of her or is it just me?

2. I like her combativeness. They are a good team.
I agree that Sam seems to be more on top of the isseus, but J. makes me laugh when she injects her funny exclamations.

And if she occasionally offends a rethug.. too damn bad. We told them what to expect from this misadministration and they did not believe us. And now the country's a mess because of their stupidity in voting for these thugs.

Edited on Wed May-17-06 02:34 AM by mike_c
OK, I'll google....

on edit-- you should try that. I'm just as confused afterwards as I was before. Seriously, google her. I gather she's an actress(?). Yes? I don't watch TV, so maybe that's why I've never encountered her? Parenthetically, I've never seen Bill O'Reilly, Chris Matthews, Kieth Olberman, or any of the other glitterati of political pop culture either, so I was being a bit tongue-in-cheek in my original query about not knowing who she is-- I really don't, but that's not unusual.

15. Really?
You don't know who she is?? That's so funny. Comedian, hugely popular in San Francisco. Been around for years. She did a special with Denis Leary a few years ago. I really thought you were being funny, so I was trying to be funny back, but I guess I missed as I am really not funny anyway, but you knew that. :)

19. I'm not really crazy about Denis Leary, but he had a great TV show
It was called "The Job." It was on ABC, I think, a few years ago. It was a comedy about New York cops, and it didn't have a laugh-track. Great show, so of course it was soon canceled.

7. I've only listened to the show a couple times
And one of those times Sam Seder irritated me badly.

He had invited Alan Keyes to come on to discuss some particular topic. I don't remember what it was.

Seder ambushed Keyes regarding his lesbian daughter, and Keyes' anti-gay views -- which had nothing to do with the stated topic of the interview.

I detest Keyes, and deplore his views on every subject that I can recall. He is, in my opinion, a crazy person. But I thought the way Sam Seder handled the interview was terribly dishonest.

8. Willful waste, makes willful want.
Ignorance of the law is no excuse.
I would say that many Americans, especially Republicans, are willfully ignorant or what is going on.
Of course the Repuke onslaught since Raygun also entrapped many Dims. Taxi drivers in Mexico City know what laissez-faire means, there are some DUers who don't. Many also think neo-liberalism means a raging progressive. Go figure.
By the way is Mexico in North or South America? Where is the Tropic of Cancer?

I like her. I don't see her 'flying off the handle'. Perhaps you'd care to explain your 'comments' and why you make them.

She's where she should be - she's better at this than at comedy.

I don't quite get what's going on with the one-liner crew. They never seem to know what they're talking about and don't explain themselves.

She's funny, smart, progressive, articulate. And cute! Jeeze - If you don't like her, listen to another station!

46. Re: your example
I've done that a bunch of times. Then again, I've also loved a book until the ending, and then felt like throwing it across the room screaming and cursing.

I've been taking a break from Air America lately anyway. My schedule's been too fluid to keep up with anything on the radio. I'm either working or writing, and I can't listen to Air America in either situation.

Well, OK, maybe not that far, But I don't find her as "abrasive" as Randi.

I've been listening to AAR on XM for about 2 months now, and my only complaint is that after about the third host spills out their outrage over the same thing that the previous 2 hosts have frothed about, I go into info overload. I can only hear about the same damn Karl Rove escapade so many times in one day...

Jeanine Garofalo is right up there with Randi Rhodes, Rosie O'Donnell and Barbra Streisand as strong women fighting for the rights of Americans. She may come across as too edgy, but edgy is what we need in this stage of the fight.

34. She's okay for radio, but she's horrible on television
When she's facing off against people like Hannity or Scarborough, she comes off woefully unprepared. Even when she was on Mr. Olbermann's show, she's doesn't know how to handle the camera. And satellite delays makes the problem ten times worse. She's the exact opposite of Rachel Maddow on television.

I appreciate what she does for the intelligent among us, but she's got to know her limitations.

38. I ONLY listen to Majority Report when she is taking time off

When she was doing 'West Wing', it was heaven.

I don't like her. Her main angle seems to be psychoanalyzing the right wing. And, she is right in what she says. But, it is the majority of what she says and gets VERY OLD, very quick.

She also NEVER takes callers on her own. If she is flying solo for the day, no calls will be taken.

Yes, Jeanine. Right wingers are stunted emotionally. Yes, they are full of hate. Yes, they are ignorant. WE KNOW. Can we now discuss issues and solutions?!

However, I LOVE SAM.

He is incredibly insightful, and brilliant. He listens to the callers, and ONLY goes on the attack, if the person doesn't want to engage in dialogue and just wants to attack liberals. Plus, he is SOOOOO funny. Really, really funny.

I wish that he was the sole anchor on the show. I would listen every single night!
