I hate the expression "Fitzmas"
Sorry, I just do. It just seems so pathetic, like we're sitting here waiting for this magical man to come and give us the gift of indictments. I think Fitzgerald is a fine man and I hope his investigation turns out to be productive, and is enough to wreck this administration, but I'm not sitting and chewing my nails waiting for the next tidbit. Even if you did like this expression, aren't you sick of it by now?

"Fitzmas" is as worn out as "this has legs" and "Bush is toast", except that it's more annoying.

And that's all I have to say about that.

5. Well, it DOES keep giving
fodder for those who keep cherry picking the whackiest shit from here for their little shithole sites.

Other than that, it reminds me of those little pissing Calvins on the backs of trucks. Cute for about the first two times, then way annoying after that.

Welcome to DU, BTW.

6. Really?
There are a few words like "democracy" and "speaking truth to power" that don't really get old for me, but that is contingent on the fact that they are used with genuine sincerity. Hearing POS Bush use the word "democracy" as though he believes in it or knows what it is makes me want to retch.

8. Yeah,
I do not have enough patience when words are used a lot. Take "value", for instance. That word has been overused to the point of being almost meaningless.

I'm just a simple hick, though. But I totally agree with your take on "democracy".

14. I don't hate Fitzmas as much as I hate...
...the objectification of a career civil servant as if he were a sex symbol movie star. That, to me, is demeaning and wrong, and harmful to our cause -- which is, as I recall, simply the rolling down of justice on those who circumvent the Constitution.

No one is saying that Fitzgerald is not a brilliant prosecutor or that he is isn't investigating the most important case of our time. There is nothing wrong with stating that that man is incredibly handsome. Some people really need to lighten up.

...sense of humor. I agree that this is a serious case, and a lot of serious shit is happening in our names around the world and within our own borders. But don't fault us if we want to laugh at ourselves and indulge in a little harmless oogling, over a cool prosecutor with brains who does a LOT more for smart liberal wimmin than Tom Cruise or Brad Pitt. ;)

15. Fitztivus would be more appropriate anyway...
especially with the "airing of the grievances" tradition. Plus I could think of all kinds of good uses for the Fitztivus pole.

I hear ya, though. It is silly. I'm going to be happy as a pig in shit if Rove is indicted (or, um, if he has already been indicted) but I get sick of the roller-coaster of emotions on here sometimes. I don't get my hopes up about any of it anymore. The "Kerry in a landslide" day was my undoing. I almost slit my wrists over that one.

...and then we'll have to come up with something new in June. After that we'll have Fitzmas in July... or we'll have a Fitz of July celebration on Fitzipendence Day.

August will be tough since there are no holidays that month. Maybe it'll be the Fitz Days of August.

Then we'll have Fitzoween, then Fitzgiving... and then it'll be FITZMAS!!

I say enjoy the ride! :)

24. Allow a little humor
Fitzmas is appropriate because we hope for something positive to come our way for a change (but not sure we'll get it and we have no control). Considering our political system, it IS like a long-awaited gift to see anything resembling justice. 'Fitzmas' caught on because it expressed a feeling, an undercurrent of deep desire for correction. Fitz really is a saint if he can tear down the walls surrounding the BFEE. We know they make their own rules, and a lot depends on this one man. The offending term (to you) will fade when Fitzmas finally comes.

28. We are waiting for the magic.
Since this government can't police itself, and since the media are inclined to give corruption a pass, we are left with the apparent dedication and honesty of a special prosecutor. His willingness to confront what others would sweep under the rug does, as you note, seem almost magical.

It's about all we've got. Whether or not anyone chews his nails probably depends upon how important honesty in government is to the individual.

32. Baby I been waiting/ I been waiting night and day...
I didn't see the time,
I waited half my life away.
There were lots of invitations
and I know you sent me some,
but I was waiting
for the miracle, for the miracle to come.
I know you really loved me.
but, you see, my hands were tied.
I know it must have hurt you,
it must have hurt your pride
to have to stand beneath my window
with your bugle and your drum,
and me I'm up there waiting
for the miracle, for the miracle to come.

Ah I don't believe you'd like it,
You wouldn't like it here.
There ain't no entertainment
and the judgements are severe.
The Maestro says it's Mozart
but it sounds like bubble gum
when you're waiting
for the miracle, for the miracle to come.

Waiting for the miracle
There's nothing left to do.
I haven't been this happy
since the end of World War II.

Nothing left to do
when you know that you've been taken.
Nothing left to do
when you're begging for a crumb
Nothing left to do
when you've got to go on waiting
waiting for the miracle to come.

I dreamed about you, baby.
It was just the other night.
Most of you was naked
Ah but some of you was light.
The sands of time were falling
from your fingers and your thumb,
and you were waiting
for the miracle, for the miracle to come

Ah baby, let's get married,
we've been alone too long.
Let's be alone together.
Let's see if we're that strong.
Yeah let's do something crazy,
something absolutely wrong
while we're waiting
for the miracle, for the miracle to come.

Nothing left to do ...

When you've fallen on the highway
and you're lying in the rain,
and they ask you how you're doing
of course you'll say you can't complain --
If you're squeezed for information,
that's when you've got to play it dumb:
You just say you're out there waiting
for the miracle, for the miracle to come.

Sincerely,
L. Cohen

36. Waiting for something to save America from its own elections.
Fitz, the Hague, the UN, "opinion", courts, filibusters, whatever. People downplay the effect of the results of elections to vote, for example, for nader or to rail against a "dino", and then, after the election, wait for somebody to rein in the power of the fuckups who have constitutional power. It's sad, and pathetic, and just where the republicans want us.
