Hellloooo AmeriKa! "US spells out plan to bomb Iran "!!! Wake Up!
US spells out plan to bomb Iran

IAN BRUCE, Defence Correspondent May 16 2006
THE US is updating contingency plans for a non-nuclear strike to cripple Iran's atomic weapon programme if international diplomacy fails, Pentagon sources have confirmed.

Strategists are understood to have presented two options for pinpoint strikes using B2 bombers flying directly from bases in Missouri, Guam in the Pacific and Diego Garcia in the Indian Ocean.
RAF Fairford in Gloucester also has facilities for B2s but this has been ruled out because of the UK's opposition to military action against Tehran.

The main plan calls for a rolling, five-day bombing campaign against 400 key targets in Iran, including 24 nuclear-related sites, 14 military airfields and radar installations, and Revolutionary Guard headquarters.

At least 75 targets in underground complexes would be attacked with waves of bunker-buster bombs.
Iranian radar networks and air defence bases would be struck by submarine-launched Tomahawk cruise missiles and then kept out of action by carrier aircraft flying from warships in the Indian Ocean and Persian Gulf.

The alternative to an all-out campaign is a demonstration strike against one or two high-profile targets such as the Natanz uranium enrichment facility or the hexafluoride gas plant at Isfahan.
UK sources say contingency plans have also been drawn up to cope with the inevitable backlash against the Basra garrison in neighbouring Iraq.

1. Can you do me a favor, please? I'm asking nicely:
Can you please not use the "k" in the word America?

There are lots of us who still feel that it's OUR country, even if the lunatics are temporarily in charge. But we still believe in America, and I for one find the "k" substitution to be insulting.

It's still my country. And yours. Please treat its name with some respect.

Thank you.

14. Well For About 999th Time I'm Going To Make This Comment
AGAIN! It's up to US!! We The People... they ain't gonna help us and we ain't gonna get their attention! We're still batting ZERO and because of this AND gerrymandering you can almost kiss '06 GOOD-BYE!

I realize that marching seems useless, but it's ALL WE HAVE. We need to organize, something I have NO qualifications for, but we need to march. We could call the march something like Taking Back America! Or Hear The Voice Of The People, Or Remember Us?? Something general enough that it won't scare the middle of the roadies, something that they will want to join us with. Just a simple message that says we've HAD ENOUGH!!

I see a post now and again talking about this, we get about 5 to 10 names and then NOTHING! What ARE we going to do?? Keep typing here at DU?? I don't have a big pocketbook, I live in an extremely red red red county in Florida and it's almost IMPOSSIBLE to get much going here. But I WOULD find some way to go to another march no matter what. If immigrants can get together to have their voices heard, I just don't see why there isn't some way we can do something like they did.

Surely, we have some here at DU with organizational skills, or connections with others who know how to get something like this off the ground. My husband and I care for his mother with Alzheimer's and have been for 7 years now, I don't go away from home much because of it, but I try to stay active in my community. But I just don't have connections to do something like this. I will participate though, somehow I WILL!!!

Edited on Tue May-16-06 09:00 PM by speedoo
So the under thirty crowd had a stake. (on edit:)So much so that they basically led the movement. Without meaning to criticize anyone here, the under thirty crowd today does not have that kind of stake in this. Whether they care or not, I don't know. I know people in their 50's and 60's, and a few in their 40's and 30's. Only one or two in their 20's and they don't care. To small a sample for me to judge.

I married my husband when I was just a babe to keep him from getting drafted!! They had called him to take his physical and so we went to the Justice of the PEACE! We had to knock on the door of a judge after hours on a Friday night to sign the papers so we could get married the following Saturday! And don't ask how we're still married, there MUST have been something there cause I can tell you I WAS NOT READY!! I was just out of high school and headed for college!

I'm ready and willing... we can't just keep sitting here! We just CAN'T!!

EVERY SINGLE DAY... EVERY SINGLE DAY... it's something else! If WE don't get off our asses and do something, we are going to lose again. Hey, we might lose anyway considering election fraud, but I'd like to think we TRIED just ONE MORE TIME!!

26. I teach on a major college campus.
The apathy is palpable. Most of the kids think that Bush is "wrong" if someone brings it up in class, but then we're all expected to allow "both sides" to state their case. There are few professors firing up the crowds.

Oh. That's another thing. There are few professors teaching

With 80% of academic jobs being taught be beleaguered grad students and adjuncts who make $3000 a course without benefits, there is no one teaching the undergraduates who can risk sending a strong message. Most high ranking faculty teach grad students almost exclusively.

The "enterprise university" model is turning higher ed into walmart and converting potentially progressive spaces into "starbucks environments"

Don't wait for the revolution to start on campus.

45. heard at a SWMLA conference...60%+ of all college students
are taught the basic courses (composition, etc) at community colleges, where the number of students in each class is quite high and full-time instructors teach 4-5 classes.......the person presenting this info called it 'outsourcing'of college instruction and said professors at prestige universities did not want to even hear about this

(I think the % was actually higher than 60%)

Let's Make It OURS! Am I really out in Left Field so far? While I have talked about it a lot, it really hit me hard when I saw that immigrants (and I have NOTHING AGAINST THEM) were able to organize and have so many HUGE marches in a VERY VERY short time.

Do we blame THEM or do we blame ourselves?? Sure, I know... they have us with the MONEY-CORPORATION-MEDIA stuff, but many Democrats have MONEY! I KNOW a lot in Congress do, so there have to be some more George Sorrels' out there. Aren't there?

It is with grave concern that I observe the growing threat of a new U.S. war--this time against the people of Iran.

For a collection of articles and resources on this subject you can visit this link: http://reseaudesign.com/research/iran/iran_summery.html

I'm starting up a petition which I will be sending out to as many members of Congress as possible. I'm asking for help to get this signed by as many people, possible in the next month. Send it to as many people you can.

Interviewed by Shelly R. Fredman. The only answer is patience and continuing to disseminate information.

http://www.alternet.org/story/36330/

Howard Zinn on Fixing What's Wrong

snip

SF: Has the Left responded adequately to the kind of fascism we see coming from Bush's people? Street protests seem to be ineffective; it's sometimes disheartening.

HZ: The responses are never adequate, until they build and build and something changes. People very often think that there must be some magical tactic, beyond the traditional ones -- protests, demonstrations, vigils, civil disobedience -- but there is no magical panacea, only persistence in continuing and escalating the usual tactics of protest and resistance. The end of the Vietnam War did not come because the Left suddenly did something new and dramatic, but because all of the actions built up over time.

If you listen to the media, you get no sense of what's happening. I speak to groups of people in different parts of the country. I was in Austin, Texas recently and a thousand people showed up. I believe people are basically decent, they just lack information….

snip

SF: Where do you see the Democrats in all this? What of their role, their responsibility?

HZ: The Democratic Party is pitiful. Not only are they not articulating a spiritual message, as Lerner says, they don't even have a political message. The Democrats are tied to corporate wealth. And they are incompetent when it comes to understanding how to win elections. By the time Kerry ran, the public had actually shifted. Fifty percent were against the war. The Democrats should have been saying they would end the war, and make those dollars available for healthcare.

SF: What about the upcoming crop of presidential candidates -- Hillary Clinton, for instance?

HZ: Hillary Clinton is so opportunistic. She goes where the wind is blowing. She doesn't say what needs to be said. And Barack Obama is cautious. He's better than Clinton, but I'd suggest Marian Wright Edelman as the Democratic candidate for president. She's the epitome of what we need. A very smart black woman who deals with children, poverty…. She's in the trenches, and she ties it in with militarization. But she doesn't come out of government.

That's another problem -- the Democratic Party is a closed circle. It may take a threatening third party to shake things up.

snip
