I contacted Reid, Boxer, Feinstein.

Here's what I said to them.

Concerning the Alito nomination.

I am gravely concerned for this country. With an executive branch which is apparently running rip shod over the Constitution, it is crucially important that our representatives in Congress take their oaths of office very seriously.

Is there any doubt that this country will change if Alito rises to the high court? Some senators have expressed a concern about the filibuster being used in this case. They say that Dems need to keep their powder dry. The only effect of this kind of thinking is to give the Republican opposition precisely what they want--to take the filibuster off the table. Remarkably, the Republicans have succeeded in precisely this goal without even pulling the trigger on the nuclear option.

It is therefore incumbent on the Senate Democrats to call the Republicans down on this issue. The filibuster is there to use in precisely this situation, where a unchecked, uncompromising majority attempts to impose its will on a minority which represents the views of a substantial portion of the people which some would put as an actual majority.

If Senate Democrats are unwilling to use the filibuster in this case, when, pray tell, will they use it?

Alito's appointment must fail. I am depending on the Senator to do his duty here.

All offices politely thanked me. Reid's office was apparently quite busy.

4. When I called Boxer's office regarding recommendation to fillibuster...
...the aide on the phone said since there wasn't a session, it didn't seems to make any difference to write this down.

What happened...was I patched through to a republican or something?

6. I don't think
we need to worry about Boxer. She'll support a filibuster.

12. No...I called Boxer's DC office...
...it was a little disorienting (as it always is) to have a staffer act dismissive of a voting constituent...one who's voted for Boxer in every election she's ever run in.

Trying the SF office today. And, might call her DC office again and see if I get a dismissal...which I won't brook without a challenge to get the message to the Senator.
