When Senator John McCain spoke at Liberty University yesterday, he made an urgent appeal for Republicans to unite.
Unite over what? Should Republicans unite over conducting the Iraq War, which has morphed into a civil war any way you look at it?
Could it be that McCain wanted Republicans to unite over those big tax cuts for the rich while the costs of conducting the Iraq War are skyrocketing? Perhaps some students of economics at Liberty University can see the foolishness of this, if they consider future generations paying off the debt, which is now reaching around $10 trillion?
Does McCain want the Republicans to unite over bringing in immigrant labor so millions more can eventually wind up on Social Security and Medicaid along with Medicare, which is already overburdened?
Does McCain want Republicans to unite over maintaining the power of lobbyists, as the freebie trips, plane travel and other perks multiply and remain acceptable as well as available to Republicans holding office?
Perhaps McCain wants the Republicans to unite in demanding that they be given access to those lofty conversations or consultations Bush claims he has when consulting his "other father". Specifically, we want to know if Bush claims he was divinely directed to rush to war in Iraq. If we could find all that out, we might learn how the Almighty consulted with George Bush. So far these communications have been secret.
