A Sea of Pink... The White House Mother's Day Vigil.
Edited on Sat May-13-06 05:55 PM by KyndCulture
I am a member of Code Pink and I am a mother, I have 2 kids 18 and 13.... I'm scared out of my mind for my children. I couldn't be in DC today but my heart and soul are with all of those who are.

I have a friend who is there and has been calling me today, she says that there are so many women in front of the White House this afternoon that she's crying constantly.

I only have the video that's been posted on Truth Out for now and what Sam has been telling me.

We all need to be a part of this tonight, in spirit.

Light a candle, say a prayer, close your eyes for a moment, whatever you feel like doing.... Be a part of this vigil of mothers tonight.

Peace is the ONLY option now.

Keep this thread alive through the night. We are all there in spirit with them.

I'll try her cell tonight to get a report.

I should have been there but work preempted my trip.

7. My health got me. I couldn't go but wanted to.
My friend, Sam's cell is going in and out, but I'm getting scattered reports. She's a damn puddle, I've talked to her about 3 times in the last 2 hours and she's just bawlin'... she's way overwhelmed.

14. Oh thank you for posting this
I met Geoff - the reporter - in Crawford. He is a really neat guy.

We are there in spirit with all the mothers. My heart is aching this weekend for the mothers who will not be having a happy Mother's Day. Tomorrow, we are having a special vigil to remember them here in KC.

15. I want everyone to stop and think.
This weekend.... about the mothers who will cry in agony tomorrow.

And we need to send as much love and energy as we can to those who are sitting in front of the White House, for us, tonight.

19. Too bad Pink herself couldn't be there to sing "Dear Mr. President"...
... and perhaps "I Have Seen the Rain" with her dad too. Would have perfectly fit in the "Sea of Pink" there!

People Have the Power
Patti Smith

I was dreaming in my dreaming Of an aspect bright and fair And my sleeping it was broken But my dream it lingered near In the form of shining valleys Where the pure air recognized And my senses newly opened I awakened to the cry That the people / have the power To redeem / the work of fools Upon the meek / the graces shower It's decreed / the people rule

The people have the power The people have the power The people have the power The people have the power

Vengeful aspects became suspect And bending low as if to hear And the armies ceased advancing Because the people had their ear
And the shepherds and the soldiers Lay beneath the stars Exchanging visions And laying arms To waste / in the dust In the form of / shining valleys Where the pure air / recognized And my senses / newly opened I awakened / to the cry

The people have the power The people have the power The people have the power The people have the power

Refrain

Where there were deserts
I saw fountains
Like cream the waters rise
And we strolled there together
With none to laugh or criticize
And the leopard
And the lamb
Lay together truly bound
I was hoping in my hoping
To recall what i had found
I was dreaming in my dreaming
God knows / a purer view
As i surrender to my sleeping
I commit my dream to you

Refrain

The power to dream / to rule
To wrestle the world from fools
It's decreed the people rule
It's decreed the people rule
Listen
I believe everything we dream
Can come to pass through our union
We can turn the world around
We can turn the earth's revolution
We have the power
People have the power ...

22. Bless all the mothers who have lost their children in this
senseless war. I cry just thinking about them, and about the vigil. May they find some comfort in each other.
