Help!!! I need an answer to a serious problem
Edited on Sat May-13-06 04:54 PM by BigMcLargehuge
My son is a meth abuser and is currently in a hospital in Phoenix where he had corrective knee surgery yesterday – Friday. He needs rehabilitative services, counseling and post-op care. I am 83 years of age, in poor health myself and am in no condition to take care of him.

I contacted my city councilman yesterday for assistance in this matter and was told the only thing that can be done is to get a restraining order on him when he gets back to Yuma and call the police any time he tries to get back into the house. That means he is being thrown out on the street. That is no solution to someone who is ill and needs medical assistance and therapy.

I can not do this to any crippled human being let alone my son. His girlfriend is here with me and can help with his recuperation but he needs some kind of rehab and counseling. We will back him 100% on this!!!!

What am I to do and who can I get in contact with that will help us? We can spend millions on a war in Iraq but the system cannot help people like myself or my drug addicted son. What is wrong with this country????

2. I have no answers for you, but I can K&R
Jails are becoming the one-size-fits-all solution for far too many of this country's problems.

3. I'm sorry to hear about your situation
I don't have any suggestions for you other than to contact local support groups. They may have more information on what is available in your area for assistance.

You might want to take your email address out of your post. Bots can pick up on it and the spam could be horrible. Instead, print it out like this bobbieo at digitaldune.net. That might save you some future headaches.

Let us know what happens. Wishing you the strength to do what you will need to do, no matter which way you decide to go.

4. Sending you prayers
Your situation is most challenging, and my immediate advice is to find support groups in your area. Surround yourself with as many supportive people as you can find.

Your son must be ready to treat his addiction if this is what you're saying must be addressed at the same time he is healing from knee surgery. It's a pretty tall order, and local support groups familiar with addiction should have some ideas and resources.

7. You could try contacting the United Way. They're suppose to do
a lot of help. The churches should have some answers, but I doubt it. Worth a try though. Best of luck

14. I'm afraid there is no easy way to put this.
Please be careful about the girlfriend. I have quite a bit of experience with drugs and you might not want to give her any money. Sorry.
