WITH BOTH WEATHER & POLITICS; A BAD MOON IS RISING CCR song /pics
U.S. Hurricane readiness?

President Bush on Friday rejected the idea of killing FEMA.

“The lessons of Katrina are important,’’ Bush said. “we’ve learned a lot here at the federal level. We’re much more ready this time than we were the last time."

“Let’s, first of all, pray there’s no hurricanes," Bush said. “That would be, like, step one." Oh goody, faith based desaster planning! Isn't this a wonderful time for Katrina victims STILL praying for some relief?

Like, step one?

Very few of the 211 suggested improvements from three federal reports will be ready when the hurricane season starts June 1 and limited dollars and political squabbling already complicate the progress.

"Nature doesn’t care about reports," said Kathleen Tierney, director of the Natural Hazards Center at the University of Colorado. “Nor does it care about the fact that there are people still suffering, and we’re not ready."

As usual insted of focussing on REAL dangers to the people of America, current leaders in the Administration and Congress remain intent on saber rattling at Iran.

Bad Moon
by John Fogerty, Creedence Clearwater Revival

I see a bad moon rising

I see trouble on the way

I see earthquakes and lightnin'

I see bad times today

Don't go 'round tonight

It's bound to take your life

There's a bad moon on the rise

I hear hurricanes a blowin'

I know the end is commin' soon

I fear rivers over flowing

I hear the voice of rage and ruin

Don't go 'round tonight

It's bound to take your life

There's a bad moon on the rise

Hope you got your things together

Hope you are quite prepared to die

Looks like we'er in for nasty weather

One eye is taken for an eye

Don't go 'round tonight

It's bound to take your life

There's a bad moon on the rise

3. Apt images
I'm almost embarrassed to say this. I'm not very good an understanding song lyrics, and I used to think "There's a bad moon on the rise" was actually "There's a bathroom on the right."

5. That was great! Thanks!
What a perfect song to put pictures to. And more proof that great music is timeless.

15. It's sad but stupidity and lack of preparedness are timeless too.
especially with our fine Republican leaders.

7. He SAID that? “Let’s, first of all, pray there’s no hurricanes,"
Bush said. “That would be, like, step one."

I hope one goes straight over his Crawford Ranch and blows it to pieces.

Just get the dogs and the hired help out first.

18. step two: break out the ole' guitar and head out for a ranch vacation
like he did when Katrina hit. People quickly forget: right after the storm he said "we're letting the private sector take care of rebuilding."

17. I can't think about this song without remembering
Edited on Sat May-13-06 03:22 PM by Blue_In_AK
seeing CCR at a music festival in Denver in 1969, I believe it was. We were all there at the outdoor football stadium, 20,000 of us or so, and a bunch of people were trying to crash the gates at the south end of the stadium to get in free. People inside, including the musicians, were chanting "Let them in, let them in," but the cops in riot gear were on hand and proceeded to lob teargas at the gatecrashers, which, with the wind blowing the direction it was, ended up blowing back into the stadium. This was my first personal experience with teargas, and especially since I was somewhat psychedelicized, it was a most unpleasant introduction. Many people ran out on the field, pandemonium reigned, but the show went on anyway. People became defiant, and soon everybody was bringing out their pipes and joints and lighting up right in front of the police, en masse. Shortly after, CCR came to the stage and began their part of the show with "Bad Moon Rising," just as the full moon was coming up over the scene. The wind shifted directions and the tear gas all blew away ... and I do believe the poor kids trying to get in did.

Good job with your presentation, and thanks for the memories. :hippie:
