Conservatives like Alito will always.....
Edited on Thu Jan-12-06 10:33 AM by LeftHander
Find a way to justify a conservative position through creative interpetation of the law. The new breed of baby boomer conservative will always make exceptions to the constitution for "national security", Christian morality and nationalism. Baby Boomer conservatives are the ones who will give up our constitutional rights because they HATED the 60's and the 70's. They have never forgot how they were outcasts and "square" during those times. Now it it paypack time.

We are simply "irresponsible" in the eyes of these people.

If Alito is confirmed he will stand arm in arm with Justice Scalia, Thomas and Roberts and they will dominate the court for a decade. They will roll back the progress of 50 years of social reform and lock in Republican neoconservative power for fifty or more years. Justice Kennedy will tend tword the conservative and builds the support of other more liberal members of the court. However, recall he voted to stop the Florida recount in the 2000 election debacle. His vote with Rehnquist, Scalia, Thomas and a surprising vote from Justice O'Conner halted the Florida recount because of a State deadline that all new would render the 7-2 Bush vs. Gore decision moot. There is no question that the court will become more conservative with Alito. And the prospects of Bush appointing another Justice before his term finishes is likely. Alito's appontment will no doubt set the stage for the retirement of Justice Stevens who is now 85.

This is a dark time my friends. I predict now these things occur with an Alito confirmation:

The President will be challenged on executive power and will be given the go ahead by the conservative court.
Roe vs. Wade will be overturned
Affirmative Action will be crippled.
Marriage equity will be a lost dream to the multitude of same sex couples.
Campaign Finance Reform will be rolled back (what modest reforms were made)
Election reform will never happen.
U.S. Will "legally" torture.
Corporations will gain more and more control over this nation and will be guided by a conservative court.
Miranda will be challenged.
Christian Fundementalist Religion will gain a larger foothold in the day to day existience of all Americans.
Intelligent Design will be elevated to science.
Our rights will slowly erode into the dustbin of history and distant memory.

Conservatives live and die by the manipulation of the law. Regardless of the reason they will justify ANY outragous act with a legal argument that will now be unquestiongly upheld by the highest court in the land.

With the confirmation of Alito...the necons will have won. The last hurdle to total control will have been met. And there isn't a damn thing we can do about itlegally. Conservative groups have been waiting for the court to tip in their favor for two decades. Now it is time. A flood of challenges too long to list will come forth .They will not win everything...but we will lose so much more than we gained. Enter a new deconstructionist period or America. Progress has officially been halted and will be replaced by quarterly profit reports.

Imagine a decade of an ACTIVIST conservative court. It will result in a very undersireable, despotic nation steeped in religious based laws, we will not be free to move about the country. We will not be free to marry the person we love, we will not be free maintain control of our own bodies, we will be tracked and analyized for the vaugest hint of trouble. We will be guilty until proven innocent, unless we can afford to pay the price for a "fair" trail.

The corporation and government will invade further, unhindered, into every aspect of our daily existence all in the name of freedom, national security and "democracy". The nation is heading down the Neocon highway now, full throttle. Soon they will start tossing people out of the way that try to block the road. (more blatantly than they already do) There is no stopping them now...as soon only the poor, minorities and liberals of this nation will be required to abide by it's laws. The wealthy, christian, conservatives will have a seperate set of laws made for them. We will get the other America, the one filled with hardship and misery.

So we can used to it. Get used to being a hated disrupter, questioning the motives of a corrupt neo-fascist state. We can used to being called moonbat, wacko, liberal, fag, bitch, whore, slut, nigger, commie, extremist, anti-american, atheist jesus hater. We can used to being relegated to the back-page, laid-off, downsized, penalized, criminalized, incarserated, demonized and dehumanized....terroized. That is where we are headed. AND IT REALLY FUCKING SUCKS.

Somebody tell me ANYTHING positive. ANYTHING good that will come of Alito's confirmation!!!

From a progressive compassionate world view tell what the fuck good is this man going to do??

PLEASE.

(Note: I'm really bumming out here....after following Alito hearings yesterday and this morning...I don't think the Dems have enough gonads to filibuster)

It most probably will be much worse. Just review despotic regimes throughout history and be prepared to experience it firsthand.

Imprisonment without charge
Convictions using secret evidence
routine eavesdropping on all Americans and political opponents
torture of Americans by Americans
informer networks

Fascism always emerges from the shadows on cats paws. Gradually and inexorably America is abandoning the Republic and embracing the Empire.
