3. So many people told me I was crazy for saying pretty much this same.......
.....thing and now I can turn to those same people and say "I told you so". I'm not happy knowing my predictions have come true, or that I was actually being too generous in my predictions, but in a small way it is satisfying knowing I was right on target.

7. It is even more fun NOT telling them "I told you so"!
It is simply delicious watching squirm with anticipation waiting for the blow that never comes.

5. "I believe we are witnessing the beginning of a very dangerous period . .
in our nation’s history, where the people in charge are trying to use any means at their disposal to stay in power. The falling poll numbers, the state of the war in Iraq, the dissent of Republicans and the impending indictment of Karl Rove lead me to believe that the White House is planning something to avoid the elections in November. My worst scenario is an attack on Iran followed by reinstating conscription and eventually martial law. But we will see, maybe the internet will save us all."

recommended . . .

10. Agreed! This is it in a nutshell. It's like waiting for the other
shoe to drop. Those halliburton detention centers all in the wait, the bird flu pandemic scare. I wouldn't be surprised at all by another inside job worst than 911.

12. Funny, I copied the same paragraph. The only one with a little hope.
"maybe the internet will save us all"

That's why it is so important to keep it neutral and free.

Can the bushco's succeed in controlling the WWW ? I doubt it. There is too many of us outside America and we won't let it happen.

6. SHH! UNCLE SAM IS LISTENING
Jack Anderson and Douglas Cohn
United Feature Syndicate
November 16, 1999, Tuesday

Last week, U.S. Rep. Bob Barr, R-Ga., maneuvered an amendment into the national-security budget to evoke some answers from the notoriously close-mouthed National Security Agency about a controversial surveillance system code-named Project Echelon.

Project Echelon began with a secret post-World-War-II pact between the United States, Australia, Britain, Canada and New Zealand, countries housing Echelon's half dozen listening posts. These groups funnel intelligence to the NSA and receive in return technology sharing with the NSA to monitor their own people and a chunk of the budget.

The project has five "ear-in-the-sky" satellites capable of monitoring sounds from thousands of miles away. They allow Echelon to intercept virtually any internationally-transmitted phone call, fax, e-mail or data transfer for the ostensible purpose of tracking international terrorist groups or drug cartels. But unlike many spying relics of the Cold War, Echelon is aimed at surveillance of civilian communications, such as business and personal e-mails. Barr's office estimates Echelon intercepts up to 2 million transmissions per hour.

While the NSA will neither confirm nor deny the existence of the Echelon system, a report commissioned by the European Parliament last year confirmed that every communication in Europe has been subject to surveillance for years and the system can decode any clever encryptions. More alarmingly, European business intelligence has been known to leak from the NSA to American businesses, providing American businesses with illicit information on mergers, take-overs and bids.

11. How can you NOT remember? The trick is reclaiming OUR
power. I truly believe we are just in the beginning stage of another revolution. Are we up to the task is the bigger question? I would love to believe the Dems are going to regroup and save the day, but I really believe it's going to take all of us uprising and that has yet to happen.

14. All of the members of congress are being spied on
Hello KGB!

<snip>

AR: Excuse me, but you seem to be saying that the government not only spies on the Democrats but also on the Republicans.

PM: Yes. The parallels with other regimes like those of Hitler, Stalin and Mao for example are very clear. They all rose to power on the back of some great crusade against an enemy that threatened them and then followed up by installing an autocratic form of government which relied on its secret service and overall public paranoia to survive.
What we have witnessed here since 9/11, the Pearl Harbor of the PNAC, is simply a repetition of history. Of course, if the great dictators of the past had television numbing the minds of the masses the way it does now, they probably would have survived a lot longer. The growth of the internet however has somewhat diverted the public’s attention away from the television and more and more people are keeping informed in other non regulated ways. The threat for the powers that be, is that the populace becomes too well informed and organized. That is why they are trying in any way they can to take control of the internet, they realize its potential to disrupt their well laid plans.
But I digress, yes the White House is spying on Republicans, and like other dictatorial regimes it realizes that the real threat is from within. The RNC cannot be trusted to control its members. That is why I believe all Republicans members of congress are tightly monitored by the White House. Not only are their communications intercepted in order to find out where they stand on certain issues but their behavior is also investigated. Another reason why they are spied on is that their actions can sometimes lead them to being blackmailed, thereby insuring that they do not stray too far from the party line.

15. There were no search results for Prof. Robert Malkmus PhD, the 'leading
authority' interviewed in this article.

I wanted to read a few of his articles (there are 200?) and assumed a few might be available online. My search for him, his articles, his position at NYU or with the Clinton admin came up blank.

I'm not an expert searcher. Has anyone found evidence of this man or his work online?

The piece says "Robert Malkmus, PhD., is Professor of Politics and Ethics at the New York University Center for Advanced Strategic Studies, author of over 40 scholarly texts, 200 articles and former head of the President Clinton's Cyber Ethics Initiative ... considered the leading authority on citizen surveillance and government intrusion into private affairs.
