1. As it stands now-the next pres can assume these grabbed powers as no
on has stopped him yet.

2. Exc. branch powers are 'cummulative" and have been increasing over
last few decades.

3. But, what is to stop Bush...
From issuing a signing statement that says he intends to ignore the amendment limiting a president to 2 terms because the War on Terror is just too important?

9. Exactly what I've been thinking, and it scares the heck out of me but.....
.....at least no one, even the neocons/fundies could ignore the fact that we no longer live in a free republic but have indeed become a dictatorship.

I also think deploying the National Guard along our southern border could be merely a first step toward "brown shirts" in every city in America. Don't get me wrong, I'm all for clamping down on our borders, but I don't trust Bush to do it properly and keep the troops at the southern border only. Oh, and by the way, what happened to clamping down on that northern border? Don't tell me terrorists, if indeed that's what all the border stuff is about, can't simply take a little plane ride and come in from the north.

17. That sounds like something he would try, but I have a feeling that
shrub is getting sick of "presidentin'". It gets in the way of his brush clearing.

4. No, because they'll snatch those powers back via the USSC
just like they did when Clinton got the line item veto.

They only suspend the constitution for themselves.

5. Their worst nightmare: Hillary with W's current power
I'm sure they'd shut down the government over a blow job she once gave her husband.

8. You pre-empted my thoughts ...
To believe there may be "another Dem president" is quite presumptious, given the fast rate of descent for our Republic.
...O...

10. You're making a big assumption that Bush is departing.
Come the next domestic terror attack (authentic or stage-managed) watch how fast the Constitution and elections will be suspended. We will be told that the current regime (administration) has to stay on for "national security", continuity during a crisis, etc. He's getting ready to deploy troops on our southern border (Mexican immigration speech Monday night). Troops on domestic soil (in peacetime) sets a very dangerous precedent that all Americans should be wary of.

12. They ARE Dead Enders
Brinksmen who will take it all the way. They've been doing it in small incriments but they are getting ready to pull out all the punches. I'm not too optimistic.

16. And this time...
There is nobody even close to the stature of an Edward R. Murrow to stand up to the regime in a media where we have so few voices as it is.

15. He's deploying the National Guard to the southern border. That is why they
EXIST. To protect American soil.

Now, if he were deploying the US Army there, we might have a legal issue.

13. I dread this.
As much as it sometimes feels good to do a tit for tat type of thing, no one should have these types of unchecked powers. I do not like it with * and I would not like it with any Dem.

However, I will be very angry if they reign in power for a Dem and then let it out again for the next right winger. There has to be fairness and equality no matter who is in office.
