Christine Toddd Whitman is going to make a White House run methinks
WASHINGTON (AP) - Christie Whitman, the former New Jersey governor and one-time head of the Environmental Protection Agency, says she's proud of being a moderate Republican - and she wants moderates to take back control of the party.

Whitman has launched a Web site, http://www.mypartytoo.com , promoting a grassroots effort for the 2006 elections and beyond. She also has been touring the country in the last year speaking on this issue, the topic of her 2005 book "It's My Party Too: The Battle for the Heart of the GOP and the Future of America," and has created a political action committee.

"We're trying to build a grassroots movement and our real focus is at the local level, where we've lost the battle and we need to re-engage," Whitman said Thursday in a telephone interview.

----

She is going to be a nightmare for the right wing....She willnot win....but she is going to evidence a repudiation of RW politics. She will highlight the differences as a sensible Republican and in so doing show how profoundly maloevelant the RW is. The good news is that Mod Repunlicans might abandon ship in Novemeber if a George Allen wins.. (that is if Allen, wins re-election)

railing on what she called "social fundamentalist" and I do mean railing. she was promoting her book. Its my party too. She is defin itiely a pro-business Republican... but she is pretty vocal at how party leadrship has brutalizaed political opponent in the p

A McCain WHitgman ticket would be nearly unbeatable.

5. Saw here speak just a few weeks ago
She is definitely upset by the "social fundamentalists" as you said. Yes, she is promoting her book, yes, she is promoting her web effort to encourage women to participate in the process, yes I disagree with her on many, many issues, but her presentation was well thought out, articulate and not entirely incorrect. Seeing her get into the field on the Republican side might actually help in the debate on what the fundamentalists have done to the Republican Party (and through them, with this current gang of greedy incompetents, our Nation) I believe more debate and more ideas are better on both sides of the spectrum.

16. You must recall how vicious the Neocons are
Remember how they were telling everyone how McCain was the only POW to gain weight while captive and how he fathered a "black" baby. The right would rip him apart faster than the left would even think about it.

3. Considering she caused a great deal of New Jersey's financial problems.
I'd say no way.

On the other hand she could not be any worse than the current disgrace in the White House.

barney... had she not done that, he'd have been impeached already.
The scottie is the only credible authority in the white house.

6. There Is The Pesky Matter Of Her Stint At The EPA
Especially her telling everyone that the air quality at ground zero was safe and posed no danger to anyone. She's being sued for that.

*shadow government*

13. She very well could be a dividing force
She is an articulate, personable ring-wing politico. She would draw a lot of middle-of-the-road, moderately-Conservative-Rockefeller GOP types. And if she keeps up "the look at what the fundies did to my party" shtick up, that would drive the rift between the two wings of the GOP (Fundies vs True Conservative) further apart.

Yes, she needs to be supported (not voted for) by Dems........sorta like what Rove did with Nader in 2000. Hey, turn-about is FAIR play after all.

14. Despite her book, she will be down with Falwell, Bob Jones U. and will
be sucking up to Dobson, Robertson, et al. Any repig needs the right wing evangelical base to win. Judging by Bush**'s poll numbers it is around 30% of the US population.

18. Too bad her record as caving to bushco while at EPA
esp per the safety of air conditions in the early days post 911 in NYC will cost health and lives of countless americans. Feigning outrage after the fact, after one played along in dangerous ways, in order to support the president at the expense of the people - just won't get her a whole lot of mileage.

20. That's been up for a long time
Nothing new and she's a lying shill to boot. Yeah, I'm the "Sandy" on her blog who confronted her on the hypocrisy in her Op-Ed. I lost any remote possibility of hope for her when her and the other pro-choice moderates supported John Roberts.
