Mothers' Day is a phone company's busiest day of the year.
When I was an "O" operator, I spent my whole shift apologizing to my customers because they kept getting busy circuits instead of their moms.

If I wanted to let my phone company know how mad I was that they violated my privacy, I'd call them on Mothers' Day. Because they would notice.

Mothers' Day was started as an anti-war protest. If there's a war on my civil rights, I think Sunday would be a good day to fight back. Mom will not only understand, she'll probably join me.

What would Julia Ward Howe do?

1. Will you marry me (lonely guy on Mother's Day) ?
OK. I know Don will take a short view of that.

You were really an "O" operator?

Aren't we too old to be up this late?

6. Hey, bliss..
What are you doing up so late/early?

Keeping musicians' hours?

Speaking of same, we are going to a benefit for the GreenHill School in Mill Valley tonight. RatDog (the living members of Grateful Dead) is playing.

Wish you were here.

5. Business Office Closed on Sunday
And as you know, Operators are about the lowest of the low on the Telco food chain (well, except for Directory). They're on call timers just like everyone else and have been given the same handout: we're not allowed to discuss it.
