Taiwan breeds transgenic, fluorescent, green pig

TAIPEI - Taiwan, home to the world’s first transgenic glowing fish, has successfully bred fluorescent green pigs that researchers hope will boost the island’s stem cell research, a professor said on Thursday.

By injecting fluorescent green protein into embryonic pigs, a research team at the island’s leading National Taiwan University managed to breed three male transgenic pigs, said professor Wu Shinn-Chih of the university’s Institute and Department of Animal Science and Technology.

“There are partially fluorescent green pigs elsewhere, but ours are the only ones in the world that are green from inside out. Even their hearts and internal organs are green,” Wu said on Thursday.

The transgenic pigs, commonly used to study human diseases, would help researchers monitor and trace changes of the tissues during the physical development, Wu said.

2. I think it was manufactured locally. Finest quality. Superior workmanship
"There is a maker's serial number 99069-07X/B71. Interesting. Not fish. Snake scale.

Deckard: Snake?

Cambodian Lady: Try Abdul Ben-Hassan. He make this snake."

As I noted the other day, we seem to be batting 1000 as far as fulfilling dystopic preditions is concerned...

3. "Ours are the only (pigs) in the world that are green from inside out"
Wheeee! We're halfway there!

Who's got the green eggs? (Fresh ones, not the ones in the batchelor regrigerator)

6. And how is this different from the four-assed monkey?
The insane genetic engineer in South Park has made a career out of creating animals with four asses. No one can really figure out WHY he does this, but they are as they are.

Now we have Taiwanese genetic engineers creating green pigs. The glowing fish I can figure out--it changes color when exposed to certain pollutants, so they can use it as a kind of coal mine canary. But green pigs? Weird.
