Bill Maher had a great show tonight.
Madeline Albright, and Richard Clarke were real stars! I think it's rerun on HBO again but I dont know when. If you get the chance, watch it.

4. I was thinking the same thing, but I really don't think he has any
interest in politics! Or at least not HIM being in the middle of it! I always enjoy Richard. He's so straight forward and pulls absolutely NO PUNCHES!

7. Cornel West , Wesley Clark ticket
They seemed to hit it off nicely. Actually the whole panel plus Bill seemed to agree on almost everything. I wish Bill didn't feel the need to balance the panel with repubs. They have enough shows on cable tv.

16. Director of National Security Richard Clarke...
... that has a damn impressive ring to it.

And put Valerie Plame and Ray McGovern in charge of the CIA and NSA respectively.

Good show, I agree. Richard Clarke, as always, is excellent. I had never heard of Cornel West before, and thought he was a fantastic guest and a man of great integrity. The only part that made me want to vomit was the interview with Fox's John Gibson. I can't stand that jerk.

Edit to reply to #2 - I agree. I would LOVE to be in a class with Cornel West. You definitely wouldn't fall asleep, and I can guarantee it would be life changing.

15. this year the dems need an ad with 2 minutes of a
Clinton speech then 2 minutes of a bush speech. That would really make things clear.

14. cornel west rocked it
Edited on Fri May-12-06 11:27 PM by faithnotgreed
he talked of the outrageousness of huge tax cuts for the wealthy when there are so many in need

i loved when he kinda called out bill when bill said this memorial day he was going to fly the original 13 colonies us flag because that represented the founding fathers and what the us used to be....
cornel responded with - now dont forget about slavery and if it werent for those who fought against it we would have had a pro slavery constitution so if you fly that flag put a little soul into it for your brown and black brothers

cornel also really called for people to stand up against homophobia
he pointed out that there were white supremacists in 1955 but that dr king stood up and called for people to work against this kind of hatred and that there has to be the same thing against homophobia

he is pretty great in that format - laughed a lot and had important things to say

richard clarke is as well - the only bad thing i can say about him was that he said bush won ohio and that it was because of the gay amendment on the ballot and genius of rove for doing that
no argument that rove engineered that crock but clarke didnt mention anything about vote fraud or the spoiled ballots etc etc
but hes not running for office so i cant be too hard on him and i do appreciate all his wonky & progressive thoughts
he even said if mccain really wants to speak truth to power then tomorrow when he speaks at falwells liberty university (clarke called it "silly") then mccain will point out there needs to be separation of church and state

bill responded with " i think that i will file that under the 'dream on' category"

yes an overall good show

28. Cornell West and all
Yes, this was a great show; it was one of those rare tv experiences I long for two hours more! I'm in Panama and would love to be able to audit some Cornell West course/class/get tapes/DVD's/CD's of his lectures and speeches. Sadly if the US had a president like West or Clarke or Hilary or Jesse or...or...or, I feel someone would assassinate her/him.

Here outside the US (thank the God!) it is still very painful to see and hear how far we've crashed in the past years. And to live where US abuse is so apparent is a humbling experience: read Emperors in the Jungle.

Mighty mighty peace
oonie:applause:

Having a sane, all-Dem panel will do that.

21. Today I (German) learned by a friend....................
...............that in American Culture, you don't say things the way they are; you better say it disguised in polite terms.

Is that true?

Why do people like me anyway, when I say the things the way they are? Maybe my German accent! :-)

23. I wouldn't say that's a general rule
It differs person to person. I've often found that Americans are actually far more blatant about how they feel than Europeans. Certain subcultures such as urban Texas and other places in the south will give you people who insult you with a smile and a back handed compliment. In the Midwest they tend to not say something bad unless forced to. If they can't say anythign good, they won't say anything. In the Northeast it's far more blatant and in your face. They'll speak their mind.

Those are still generalizations though and you'll find all types in all regions, in my experience. Compared to Europe however, on the whole Americans tend to be far more forward and blatant.

27. That was my laugh-out-loud moment:
"I'm a comedian, and he's a fuckin' retard!"

I just emailed Clarke with my kudos for the show. Maher mentioned that John Legend was a Penn alumnus, but I don't believe he mentioned that Clarke is, also. And West is a prof at Princeton! You just know the freeptards could watch this show, not get the humor, and blame their own ignorance on the elite Ivy Leaguers.

22. No, because the studio panel guests don't get to participate
Edited on Sat May-13-06 11:30 AM by stopbush
in Bill's interviews with guests sitting in a remote location. Bill did offer a
few contrary opinions, and Gibson moderated his statements in a way that
he would never do on Faux News.

Overall, Gibson was quite ineffective.

I wish Bill would have brought up Gibson's comments about "make more white babies"
from the day before, but he didn't. Why let Gibson off the hook for his
racist comments?

24. actually the panel shot down most of gibson's points
after the interview. It was refreshing watching them all agree and support each other. Sometimes I get such a headache watching this show when they have wingnuts on the panel. It seems (I hope anyway) it is getting harder to find bush supporters. Even nutbag mel gibson doesn't like bush anymore.

I especially loved his last "New Rule" where he kicked Bush's ass. I think he was saving that up all season.
