Anti-war sentiment runs high at forum
About 250 people swarmed an anti-Iraq war town meeting Saturday sponsored by the Democrats of the 10th Congressional District at the Northbrook Public Library.

Highland Park comedian Aaron Freeman started the program by addressing the crowd as "Fellow Republicans," an opening that was met with gales of laughter. But if there was an avowed Republican in the audience, he kept quiet as the three-man panel attacked White House policies on the 21-month-old war.

A primary theme of the afternoon was an assault on President George W. Bush's claim that insurgents in Iraq are those who out of power and are trying to regain or acquire it.

"Our military presence is the problem," said David Cortright, a research fellow at the Joan B. Kroc Institute for International Peace Studies at the University of Notre Dame.
