Santorum to discuss Iraq war in speech to cadets
KIMBERLY HEFLING
Associated Press

PHILADELPHIA - Sen. Rick Santorum planned to detail a proposal to create an independent commission to examine future progress in Iraq in a Thursday address to military cadets.

Santorum's press office said the No. 3 Senate Republican also would discuss his assessment of the war, and what should be done to establish a stable democracy in the Middle East, in a stop at the Valley Forge Military Academy and College.

Two two-term incumbent is trailing his likely Democratic opponent, state treasurer Bob Casey Jr., in his bid for re-election in November. Combined, the two are expected to raise $50 million, which would make it Pennsylvania's most expensive Senate race.

Last week, Santorum wrote a later to President Bush asking for a commission to be created.

More than 100 Pennsylvanians have died in Iraq. The state trails only Texas and California in the number of casualties.

3. I know it's a cheap shot, but truly every time I see his name I read/think
'sanatorium'

(there's only two letters missing that make the difference)

Santorum: Liberals, media undermining war support

The Associated Press

http://www.centredaily.com/mld/centredaily/news/local/13610447.htm

VALLEY FORGE -- Sen. Rick Santorum today lashed out at the media and liberals for undermining support for the Iraq war at a time when, he said, Islamic fundamentalist pose a serious threat to national security.

>>>>He urged President Bush to create an independent commission to examine progress in Iraq that should be a "look forward not a look back."

Speaking to more than 300 cadets at the Valley Forge Military Academy, Santorum said public support for the war has been difficult to maintain because of "biased coverage of the war and the political left demagoguery of the war."

In a Quinnipiac University poll released last month, Pennsylvania voters said by a 2-1 margin that Santorum's support of President Bush hurt his chances for re-election.
