I am very curious to know why now? I remember reading about Echelon and Carnivore over a year ago on DU. Is it just that someone told someone else "Now is the time" and the story is reported by one gigantic news source and picked up by all others?

I know I've been very careful what I said on certain calls for several years. I had no proof, but sure had strong suspicions, and since the calls I'm referring to were to a foreign country, I figured the conversation was being intercepted too. Noooo, I'm not involved with ny terrorist activities or anything covert. My life should be so exciting! The person I talk to is connected to the US military, and I just don't want to cause any problems for him.

The fact that the government can moniter our phone calls is nothing new, it's been going on for years and the current news stories that we see make it seem like all they do is look at "who we are talking to"(whoopee?). That's ridiculous. Almost as ridiculous as the spineless Democrats' response of a "censure" (oooohhhhhhh, what's next, they're gonna slap W's wrist?). All the current story does is reinforce the idea of the war powers of the president. When people really think about what they read-the government knows who they call-they really don't care. But the truth is that it's been made "legal" for them to "monitor" a lot more than that (all telecommunications/internet activity), but that is ignored by the media, and thus the sheeple think that would never happen.
