A WTF moment.
Who would have predicted that USA Today would break a story of this magnititude and one which is decidely hostile to the gwb government?

And that the NY Times would be complicit in suppressing stories, about Iraq and the wiretapping, for the sake of not appearing "too political"?

And that Qwest would be lauded for their adherence to a privacy standard, even with government pressure?

May I repeat...:wtf:

1. How did the USA Today get the information? I've been looking
for the answer to this question since last night when it broke. And the timing was so bad for B* because of Hayden...

2. exactly! That's been hitting me too.
Especially the bit about Qwest. There has been some really interesting stuff with them in the past. But who am I to look a gift horse in the mouth?

3. Through the looking-glass...
Never thought I'd have a reason *not* to cuss out my phone company, Qwest; never thought I'd regard USA Today as a purveyor of top-notch investigative journalism. You can't make this stuff up, not here in BushWorld.

4. I humbly apologize to USA Today for all those times I called them
My Weekly Reader. They did a GREAT job and a huge patriotic service with this story. They filled a vacuum of media cowardice and they did it in a timely fashion. I particularly thank them for not making this part of the Friday news dump. I will reward them by buying them.

I used to suscribe to the NYT and they are actually my homepage, but now I barely look at them or pay them any attention whatsoever due to the Judith Miller stenography and their sitting on stories that could have altered the election. Plus, they are not covering election fraud. Frank Rich and Paul Krugman are the ONLY tings I read anymore.

5. You are right
Unexpected "heroes"
USA Today is SO mainstream it was the perfect paper to do it, but who would expect it?
And we are all waiting for Qwest to come into our state...

Let us have more heroes we'd never expect.

7. Qwest in particular
I despise this company because of an incident a few years ago. But maybe they have truly changed since being brought up on fraud and anti-trust stuff in about '01 or so.

12. apparently Qwest smartly realized the liability problems with turning
over this kind of information that the other carriers did not.
