Murtha Predicts U.S. Pullout From Iraq
LINK

Rep. John Murtha , a Vietnam veteran first elected in the anti-war fever of 1974, says American troops will be brought home fromIraq by 2007.

Either President Bush will bow to public opinion or Democrats will have won control of the House of Representatives and increased pressure on the White House, Murtha, D-Pa., said in an Associated Press interview Thursday.

Most likely, there will be a "tidal wave" that propels Democrats into the majority, said Murtha. He predicts Democrats will gain 40-50 seats — well more than the 15 needed for the party to gain control.

Murtha, 73, a retired Marine colonel who has generally been hawkish on war issues, shocked Washington in November when he said the war could not be won and it was time for troops to come home. He offered a plan that would keep troops in the region in case of a national security emergency.

3. Wow. Forty to fifty seats sounds a bit high, but hell, I'll take it.
I think Murtha's right on withdrawal of troops, and I also hope he can slip into Cincinnati to campaign for Wulsin against Mean Jean Schmidt.

I hope that's one of those 40-50 seats he's talking about, and more power to him no matter what.

6. Ken Mehlman is saying the same thing.
There was a story the other day saying that he was privately warning the Republican bigwigs that if they didn't turn things around, they were looking at losing 45 seats in the House come November.

8. Well, great. I could DEFINITELY handle a 45-seat loss by the GOP in
November.

That would make a very nice headline to wake up to on Nov. 8th!

9. 20K Troops drawdown before Nov. Elelctions.
Around 100K Troops will hunker down on those "Enduring Bases" in order to keep Troop Casualties to a minimum so that Americans will be more at ease with the Iraq Colony. There is now way that the Neo Fascist Regime will let go of this region now that the territory has been acquired.

10. Not good enough
I don't like this approach. We should have had 20,000 out last year, with another 50,000 or more out this year. I wish he'd stop saying Bush is going to pull troops out, he doesnt know that and there's nothing to indicate that it's true. I don't understand it. If he wants the troops out, he needs to keep up the pressure to turn Iraq over to the Iraqi's.

11. Murtha's Plan was either misunderstood or...
the Corp Media purposefully warped it. He never said complete withdawl of troops from Iraq. He said redeployment, meaning that the troops would be based in countries around Iraq, such as Kuwaitt and be able to go into Iraq again if Civil War there actuall broke out full scale. He wants to troops out of the mess. He feels that the US Forces are not part of the solution to Iraq's problems but part of the problem.

12. I understand what he said
I wish he would keep pushing for what he said. The last two times I've heard his remarks, he's said Bush is going to pull troops out. First it was this year, and now it's next year. Maybe he's being misquoted, I don't know, but he seems to be giving Bush WAY too much credit. Bush is NOT going to pull troops out of Iraq, whether they're redeployed in the region or brought home or whatever. It doesn't seem to me that Murtha understands that. Please correct me if I'm wrong because I'd sure like to think we're all moving closer to the same page on Iraq.
