Jon Kyl: "This is nuts..We are in war..collect intelligence on the enemy"
Edited on Thu May-11-06 01:46 PM by sabra

http://newsblogs.chicagotribune.com/news_theswamp/2006/05/nsa_phone_recor.html

<snip>

“This is nuts,” said Jon Kyl (R-Ariz.) of the public discussion of intelligence-gathring activities. “We are in war. And we’ve got to collect intelligence on the enemy. And you can’t tell the enemy in advance how you’re going to do it. And discussing all of this stuff in public leads to that.”

Then Kyl read parts of the USA Today article to make his point that it had raised a ruckus unnecessarily, making too much of the NSA phone data collection program. “Look at some of the stuff in this USA Today article here. Quote ‘The NSA’s domestic program as described by sources is far more expansive than what the White House acknowledged.’ ” Then he said “Yesss” with the same sarcasm someone might say “duhhh” to a person who seemed a little dense.

“The White House is not going to acknowledge all of the things that we’re doing against the enemies. No surprise there,” Kyl said.

10. This is THE question that needs to be asked of these ________
Bush didn't start spying on Americans after 9/11, he started after his inauguration.

And he knew all about Osama bin Laden and al Qaeda.

Which begs the question: "Why wasn't Bush spying on Osama?" If he was, then 9/11 wouldn't have happened. If he didn't, then "why not?"

Bush needs to be hammered with this question at every opportunity!!!

________ is for the most contemptible term one could think of. I know a few but didn't want to post them here for fear of offending someone.

17. And how easy is it to get FISA clearance to do wiretapping LEGALLY?
If they are not getting FISA warrants-- which are EASY to get and very seldom turned down-- then they are up to no good.

And what OTHER laws are they choosing to ignore??!!??

30. I am not a dimwit, damnit!!
Edited on Thu May-11-06 03:05 PM by DBoon
The reason millions of calls are being monitored is because in the eyes of the government a large portion of the citizenry is seen as "the enemy". it is no longer a few thousand "terrorist sympathizers" being unlawfully watched, but a huge portion of the population.

The rhetorical question was addressed to Mr. Kyle, with the answer implied.

Kyle would be the dimwit, not I - except I think Kyle knows perfectly well what is going on and why.

6. It Is Probably Too Late For This Fool, Sir
But the facts indicate it is not intelligence of a foreign enemy being gathered, but rather intelligence of our own citizenry at large, so if there is actually any sense at all to be found in his words, it is this: The Republicsn regime is at war with the people of the country, and busy gathering intelligence on them....

8. Incidentally, Magistrate...
"The Republican regime is at war with the people of the country, and busy gathering intelligence on them...." (typo in 2nd word fixed)

In light of this, if you really think about it... doesn't it all make *SENSE* now?...

I mean. All of it.

23. Kyl is a scumbag.
He votes about 98% the way Chimpy tells him too. It's hard to believe anyone but the most diehard Rep would support him.
Unfortunately most people don't follow politics the way we do, and will vote their party line instead of looking at the issues. I'm voting for Pederson but I think he has an uphill battle for the seat.

14. Senator Kyl, and any Republican who wants to make this case-
If what you say is true, why don't you let key Democrats see the information? No one gets security classifications, so no one knows....except this 315 and falling administration and select members of the Republican Syndicate.

If you have nothing to hide and it's truely on the up and up, why not allow oversite by members of both parties?

Because we know what the most ioverarching priority of your party is....maintaining power so as to avoid the inevitable criminal prosecutions that will occur once you lose control of Congress.

A political hit man!

Karl used his security clearances to out a CIA agent in a time of war and he was still able to see top secret information, even after the pres and the VP knew he had committed high crimes!

19. Jon Kyl has the wit of a manure spreader, and the same function.
When these GOP locksteps jump to the defense of an indefensible program, they sound worse than they usually sound, and they usually sound vacuous and idiotic.

In this case they also sound evil and deceptive.

Jim Pederson? I don't know much about him, but I hope somehow he kicks Kyl's ass from here to Hong Kong.

21. Umm Mr. Kyl
The White House is doing very little against the enemy. Heard anything about Osama lately? Has he been captured, seen, killed?

No, none of those things have been done because your president has been too damn busy invading the wrong country on false pretexts and making even more enemies we've got to worry about, all to steal a sovereign nation's oil, and he even fucked that up. So instead of bringing Osama to justice, or even us lower oil prices, he sets the NSA loose to spy on US citizens. Who's got their prioties wrong now Mr. Kyl? It certainly isn't the American people.

24. If this is so reasonable, Kyl, then why no warrants?
If this is necessary for the WOT and not out of constitutional bounds, surely the FISA court would agree and issue any warrant necessary. Bush** could even retroactively get a warrant if circumstances were moving too fast at the time one was needed.

Oh and BTW, Kyl, we're not interested in your attempts to turn the whistleblower into a criminal. FAUX is already trying to distract its shrinking audience with that spew. RW CYA diversion tactics are so transparent at this point that we can see the backdrop through your lying mouths.

28. I'm so dumbfounded that I don't know quite how to respond to that.
By the logic that we can't tell the enemy how we are collecting intelligence, the government could do literally anything since apparently we don't have a right to know.
