Al Franken & Richard Perle - anyone listening?

I thought this would be better than it is. Am I missing something?

7. Perle is not the typical frothing RWer and debates in a calm,
Edited on Thu May-11-06 01:39 PM by hlthe2b
"seemingly rational" way. Thus, there is no emotion in the debate. Al is asking the questions, but it comes off as boring, given the lack of passion and considerable deflection.

2. You are probably picking up on what I am...
The reason why total SOB Neocons like Perle and Bill Kristol have been so succesful (so-to-speak) is that they can SOUND so rational. Both have learned some tremendous propaganda skills, including containing any personal emotion. Perle is especially that way on radio, because you can't see how demonic he looks. Kristol, unfortunately, can come across as quite likeable. Never underestimate the power of coming across as "sane" and "likeable." I dare say we wouldn't have the "beer budy" in the WH if it weren't for his frat boy skills...

16. But Franken is good at keeping the tone like that and killing the opponent
with his own words.
Not too many people could do that.

21. I think by staying calm, Franken keeps the non-believers listening, and
might have more of a chance to convince them of how much Perle is lyinghis ass off!!

to do a documentary. He said something about them documenting him going up against his critics.

5. Perle is insisting that his lies are the truth
only now does Al have quotes, including sound bites, to try and refute him. I'm sitting here wishing Stephanie Miller and Guy James were doing the interview. Stephanie would drive Perle nuts with her craziness, and Guy James would ask really tough questions and tell him like it is.

Does not have it on him...cannot name sources (other than discredited Weekly Standard)...9/11 commission findings are wrong.

advice that was so bad they didn't use it. Claims he wasn't paid for it.

He was only paid a retainer from GoldmanSachs.

Before the war. Everyone knew we didn't not have enough troops to sustain urban combat operations in Iraq.

I was like "how the hell do you avoid that!?"

32. I was just getting ready to post this,
but I was alerted that this thread is already running. I would strongly urge all to search out the evening rerun of this program.

Getting Air America by streaming internet was sometimes a pain in the ass. For that reason I went to XM, but Air America (channel 167) is almost all I use it for. And although Al Franken is a lot closer to "mainstream" than I care for, I have nothing but admiration for him. He illustrates how much knowledge can be gained by civil discourse, and by (momentary at least) suspension of blind hate towards the "other side". This interview with Richard Perle illustrates that very well.

34. Lie
I wasn't paid by global crossings ..... I was retained by global crossing.

retainer (2), noun.
1. a fee paid to secure services, on a continuing basis or when necessary.
Ex. This lawyer receives a retainer before he begins work on a case.
2. a retaining of a person's service.

38. Franken did a great job...
with one smooth bastard who was no doubt vetted very thoroughly before going on...I doubt a word Perle said was unrehearsed. I can only say that going on the offensive like this, instead of fearing the fascist fucks, is what is going to keep the tide turning against them. Do we have them on the run yet? No...that's got to be our goal...on the run like a herd of crazed cows...trampling over one another, blind panic at getting caught...and, unlike cows, guilty as hell...Franken's doing his part, and I applaud him...

37. OMG! I was listening on and off driving around doing errands.
I hope Al has a transcript on his website so I can check if what I heard is right. Now I know for sure that Perle is part of a boardroom that is acting in place of the President of the United States with Bush as the figurehead. I think Al is doing the right thing in not engaging in attack talk radio and letting Perle hang himself with his own words.

I know now why neo-cons lie. When they are through the lie is out there getting passed around, and by the time the rebuttal comes around, the lie has taken hold in many minds so the rebuttal is ineffective. So they don't even care if they are caught in their lies because the damage has been done.

Then he had the audacity to engage in projection and tell Al that everything he (Al) said was wrong.

I have to check my blood pressure because I am livid!
