I never put much stock in reincarnation, but after hearing Sen. Cornyn's
defense of the NSA's warrantless data-mining of 10 million Americans' calls this morning, I am now convinced that reincarnation is a real thing, and that Cornyn is the living spirit of Heinrich Himmler.

He always touched off that torched-earth, fascist vibe, but I could never put my finger on it exactly.

But the lightbulb went on this morning hearing Cornyn say the reason Congress isn't consulted on decisions like surveillance is because "Congress leaks!"

1. How can Congress leak
They get no info, course that's the point. Ugh

2. Cornyn & KBH are my senators; ain't I lucky? That's why I
think it's a waste of time to contact them. The term 'lockstep' really does apply!

5. me to - However, I did recently get a letter from Kay Baily and
I was rather surprised. It was about wiretaps and she used the words, "President Bush claims that the program is legal." She pretty much toed the line talking out of both sides of her mouth, but that single word "claims" made me think she might be persuaded?

6. Hmmm. I've received responses to my queries from KBH that
had nothing to do with what I asked originally.
The only letter I've ever gotten from Cornyn was asking for money, never an explanation of why he takes his particular stands.
I'm done!

10. Oh I agree with you. I always wish that we could come up with
a unified way for all progressives to be heard. I was just reading that the current most effective way to get attention is FAX and US Mail, hand addressed, hand stamped.

I was hoping that the DU Activist group would think of more creative ways to be heard. For instance, pick one person, one issue, and totally deluge them with FAXes or postcards or letters. this way we are more powerful than scattered handfuls of communications across the board.

But I agree with you. There is no way in hell, even if you stood outside Cornyn's office and set yourself on fire that he would change positions.

7. babylonsister, I wish you a future of better U.S. senators. Don't know
how likely that is right away, but you definitely deserve better representation.

DeLay was my rep, so I'm currently rudderless? :hi:

11. An absent Tom Delay is a great thing! Congratulations! Can we get a
Democrat in that seat?

We're counting on you & send our best vibes!

3. Well, that's the problem we Buddhists have with killing off our enemies
They always come back to do it all over again, only with an even worse Karma load. Until and unless they manage to progress, they'll keep coming back to do mischief because they've never had to learn anything different.

After all, where do you think all these fascist enablers came from, voting pubbie whenever they can?

Cornyn is an utter waste of protoplasm, though, all the evil of Himmler and none of the wit. How he persuaded people (even Texans) to vote for him is totally beyond me.

8. Yep. Cornyn is a bad one. Terrible choice for a senator.
His comments this morning were just grating.

You have indeed put your finger on it.

15. Hi, enough. Yep -- Cornyn kind of gives me the creeps anyway, but
he outdid himself this morning.

It was not unlike hearing a Nazi in a WWII novel say something like, "Of course it's a bit brutish, but we need an efficient system."

Just creepy as hell.

14. Cornyn is dispicable. I wish someone would dig up his dirt when
he was a judge in TX. No doubt there's plenty.

16. The tide has now turned on Bush, and Cornyn is kind of holding on
to the planks of the boat, even as it's taking on water.

There's a mean-spiritedness to him that I don't like. It's more than just his being a Republican, which I ALSO don't like. It's a snake-souled meanness. A very untrustworthy man.

17. Cornyn is tight with Karl Rove, so when he steps out front on something
there's a good chance he's doing Rove's bidding.

18. Hmm. That's right. They go back a ways from Texas days, don't they.
Well, no wonder Cornyn is out pimping for Dubya on this one.

Yikes I just can't stand this administration.

19. Remember when John Dean was testifying before a Senate committee
about something and Cornyn at the very first made an ugly speech about how John Dean was a convicted felon so his testimony would be dubious, and then Cornyn walked out and didn't even hear Dean's testimony?

Because of their close connection (not to mention the fact that Cornyn is a dunce and a patsy) that incident is thought to have been at Rove's direction.

It sounds just over the top enough, by Senate standards, that it does sound like Rove.

I mean, Cornyn is a first-tem Senator, and that was pretty brash.

20. I'd put it far on the back burner, janeaustin, until you just now
mentioned it.

That's right. A (likely) Rove-staged incident by Cornyn, his old Texas buddy.

Excellent connecting of the dots.
