"If you think Bush is Guilty of War Crimes, you are Delusional"
JUDGE ORDERS WORLD CAN'T WAIT ACTIVIST TO JAIL PSYCH UNIT
If you think Bush is Guilty of War Crimes, you are Delusional.

May 10: Judge Timothy McGinty incarcerated an activist with World Can't Wait--Drive Out the Regime in the psych unit of the Cuyahoga County Jail in downtown Cleveland, where she now sits for an indefinite period of time.

On April 28, after a 5-day trial, Carol Fisher was found guilty of 2 counts of assault on police officers for posting a sign on a telephone pole announcing World Can't Wait's protests against Bush's State of the Union address. She faces a possible 3 years in prison and a mandatory psych exam.

In a hastily called hearing on May 10, Judge McGinty made a highly unusual decision to force Carol to undergo a state psychological exam as part of her pre-sentencing investigation. From the start of Carol's case, the judge has said that she must have mental problems for resisting an unlawful and brutal encounter with Cleveland Heights police.

Terry Gilbert, one of Carol's attorneys said, "This is Gulag stuff--saying that people who are dissidents are crazy." He said that in his 33 years of practicing law, he has never seen anything like this.

1. I heard this on Malloy's show last night
in my car. I screamed at my radio, I was so pissed. This "judge" needs to be impeached, and the police officers involved should be fired. How can a town with the Rock'n'Roll Hall of Fame be so red?

To think that this kind of thing is going on in the alleged United States of America scares the hell out of me. :scared:

5. This wasn't in Cleveland proper.
It was in Cleveland Heights, a suburb where the police are NOTORIOUSLY nasty, way beyond the usual bullying cop assholishness.

And the town is far from red, B3Nut. It's a deep blue corner of a very red state. Cuyahoga County went something like 70% for Kerry. This is the hideously unfortunate pairing of bored dickhead cops and a psycho judge. Had it been another day, or even 20 minutes one way or the other, this could have all gone down very differently, or not at all.

My heart goes out to this woman, she got mega-beyondo fucked. I've posted flyers on that street dozens of times.

11. Wow
I hope some saner heads intervene in this. And I have nothing but contempt for nasty cops...it's one of the most horrible abuses of the public trust that exists IMHO. Persons with authoritarian personality traits are ill-suited for law enforcement, such a personality often makes it difficult to make proper judgments.

May the outrage continue to boil. :)

20. The tragedy of the law enforcement profession
It has an unreasonable appeal to all kinds of psychos.

Sometimes I think the police should work like the military in some countries -- every able person HAS to be trained and work as a cop for two years, and then NEVER AGAIN -- no carrer allowed, except in a few administrative, no-gun, no-beating positions. And NO volunteers -- take every able person and decide by lottery in case of excess people available.

2. Expected...

Why are we not shocked?

I know a kid that was flying from Philadelphia International to Miami and while waiting to board was talking to her friend next to her... Topic turned to politics and they discussed their displeasure with the Chimp... Within minutes, three security guards appeared out of nowhere and told the girls to "Come with them"... Since the flight was boarding any minute and the kids had been looking forward to this for a long time, they foolishly refused and demaded to know why...

You can see where this is going, right? They both spent the night in jail...

To be young and idealistic under this administration is a detriment to your health....

4. I've met Ms. Fisher.
While I'm not even slightly down with the RCP, she's a really nice, sincere woman trying to do some good in the world. And the idea of that petite little slip of a middle-aged woman assaulting police officers is beyond laughable. Nothing about this is even remotely acceptable. The cops behaved in such a grossly and transparently evil manner I never dreamed she'd be convicted, and this judge's behavior is nightmarish. All Cleveland Heights is doing is confirming every radical's most paranoid ideas about the system.

Carol Fisher, from a photo in the Cleveland Free Times:

Right. She assaulted cops. :eyes:

9. yeah, she looks really brutal
I'm scared of her, but I'm kind of a special case. I'm guessing the force doesn't want people like me.

Ohio is so screwed up!

10. I do not feel safer.

One thing that is becoming clearer to me is that the evil in this country is not confined to this administration. I think this is why the drug war was so painful for me. I saw exactly the mentality that we see here. I could not explain it to anyone at the time. But now I can. I'm disgusted. They appear to be in every crack. I'm sitting here in shock, watching this, year after year. Watching good Americans who are being deprived of their lives by trying to take action against this evil administration.

8. Straight out of Stalinist times
This is exactly how Stalin dealt with dissent: The soviet was perfect, above all reproach or criticism, therefore anyone who found fault with the system must be mad.

Where madness is the norm, it's dangerous to be sane.

15. that's exactly what I was thinking
this is what they did to political activists in the Soviet Union. So freepers, what do you think about that? Your communist spiel, it seems that some of your government believes that what's good for Communist Soviet Union, is good for the good ol' US of A.

12. I hope she still has a right to an appeal...
... in what's left of this Democracy. But I suppose even if she does, she'll probably reach some other Bushco judge in the appeals court too that will continue this drive to rule by dictatorship!
