Bush faces an election disaster as voters turn Democrat
Like Tony Blair, and for many of the same reasons, George Bush's popularity has hit a nadir and his Republicans risk losing control of Congress at mid-term elect-ions in November. Apart from terrorism and national defence, Democrats sweep the board on the issues. In a New York Times/CBS poll yesterday, they are held to have the better policies on education, health care, taxes and immigration. By 57 per cent to 11 per cent, they are considered more likely to reduce petrol prices.

Most significantly perhaps, Democrats are judged to have better policies on Iraq, by a clear 48-30 margin. A narrow majority believe that some form of democratic government will emerge in Baghdad. But by a two to one margin, Americans do not believe Mr Bush can successfully end the war. By a record 56 per cent to 39 per cent, they now say it was wrong for the US to have invaded in the first place.

Even more ominously for the White House, more than four out of five of those surveyed say the Republican-controlled Congress has "not asked enough questions" on Iraq. This suggests Democrats would enjoy broad public support if - were they to win control of either the Senate or the House - they launched the major investigation into the origins of the Iraq war that the Bush administration has so far escaped.

Bush's one comfort, in America's new age of disillusion, is that few other leading politicians fare much better. Of those who might replace him, Hillary Clinton is regarded favourably by 34 per cent, but unfavourably by 35 per cent, with a third having no opinion. Among Republicans, John McCain, the Arizona senator and current front-runner to win the party's 2008 nomination, has a positive 31-15 rating.

1. Will this affect corporate contributions?
I wonder if corporations will start throwing more money to the Dems, now, the idea being that they need to curry favor with the party that is likey to be in power.

4. I read that Wall Street is aiming their money at the Dems these days.
nearly 60% of their 26 million given last year has gone to the Democrats as compared with 2/3rds to the GOP during the 2004 election cycle.

7. That's an interesting twist..
"..curry favor with the party that is likey to be in power."
Think it'll work?

Dems should take all the money they can get from these Corp fuckers, and once we're in office, do all we can to dismantle the power of the Coporation.
Fuck em all for what they've done to our American people via G W Bush.

We could donate all their PAC & lobby money to the National debt.

11. The question is will they?

My worry is that they won't tell them FU, especially the DLC types. Methinks that the only way to get politicos to not be swayed by corporate big bucks and to legislate on behalf of the people is to once and for all take the $$$ out of politics!:banghead:

12. Pay-As-You-Go Politicians. No more "talk the talk"..they need to start..
walking the freakin walk...taking the $$$ out of politics would certainly return America to "the people".

No more free rides. With the destruction from the Bush Administration there seems no other way to shore up the debt and strengthen our Nation.

The days of privledge and top benefits for politicians should end..they can all blame BushCo for spoiling the "good thing they had going".
Blame Bush.
Every American now has to step up to the plate to put America back on track..including the mega wealthy, the medium wealthy and the employees of our American government.
Enough is enough. If they don't like the pay, they should find another job..That's the great thing about being an American ..the freedom to change careers. Go for it..Washington D.C....You've overspent by billions, time to take the checkbook outta their hand and cut the credit cards..
Pay-As-You-Go.
A Christmas bonus for all politiians if they show the American people they can be responsible with our money.

Thank You
Blaze

9. they have already done this
I saw in "The Hill" lobbyists have started to hire dems, can't you just see them standing up like prairie dogs trying to smell the money. It's so pathetic but the GOP is not downwind from
this one.

10. We really are a "tar and feather" nation -
I think old W slept thru history classes -

Fortunately - for us - he is going to find out just what that means.

I would keep in mind - defectors from the republican party, with brain lock about their vote in 2004 should not be dissuaded from their thinking - not here. It is natural for our society to believe they did the right thing (even if they did the wrong thing) and to come over (to the light, so to speak).

We are revisionists, us americans - born in tar and feather politics and quit able to "run the bastards out on a rail"

God bless us, it is REALLY happening now.

Lets keep it coming,

Joe
