A Kansas City man allegedly beat his former girlfriend with a belt more than 50 times on her bare skin, until the belt starting falling apart.
Jackson County prosecutors charged Clarence E. Jaggers, 26, with assault, kidnapping, armed criminal action and two counts of sodomy in connection with an attack that began about 2:30 a.m. Saturday.
He was in jail Monday. Bond was set at $250,000.
Court records gave this account:
The woman said Jaggers surprised her in her stairwell and forced his way into her apartment near Eighth and Holmes streets.
He allegedly demanded that she disrobe before he beat her repeatedly and ordered her to perform a sex act on him.
She escaped when Jaggers fell asleep.
Jaggers denied beating the victim on this occasion but said he had hit her in the past.
He was convicted in 2002 of unlawful use of a weapon and distributing a controlled substance.
Four women filed for orders of protection against him between June 2000 and October 2005, court records show.
