Feingold for President
I didn't know all that much about this guy until I actually went to the site and checked it out. I must say, after reading it pretty thoroughly, I liked it a lot. I think this guy would be a great President, and I hope he decides to run.

GO RUSS!

26. Doesn't matter to me when he stands for what is right
But I see your point, as to the sheeple voting for him as the Repubs decry his "morality." Still he'd look better than Clinton.

Interesting, ask a freeper what is worse; one who is divorced by didn't cheat (say) or one who was only married once and never divorced by cheated?

I agree it's a stupid criterion. But it's one that people will use.

3. Welcome to DU, Jason9612. You will encounter a lot of people here
who like Russell Feingold.

And other Dems, too.

We're a reasonably good bunch of folks & always welcome new people. Warm welcome.

And I see him as presidential material.

We have a number of people who would do well as pres: Gore, Feingold, Kerry,
and that's without even giving a moment's thought to it.

6. Actually, I don't like Kerry or Gore...
I know I may get heat, but I strongly dislike Kerry. I disapprove with what he did during the Vietnam War, and I don't like how he tends to flip flop a bit. Maybe that's just the right getting in my head..

Gore, I dont know about him. I don't see him as President. He doesn't have enough charisma, it seems, to be President. I agree with him on Global Warming and I would vote for him over a Republican, but he's not my ideal choice.

Fiengold has a CLEAR PLAN, and seems to be ready to run the country.

9. Dislike is strong for my feelings towards Kerry or Gore...
Edited on Wed May-10-06 04:02 PM by calipendence
but I agree with much of what you are saying here...

I think both of them are decent folks, but for leading this country, Feingold is the one guy in congress that walks the walk in terms of cleaning up campaign financing, and I think that is THE most important issue that needs to be fixed in a coming administration. We NEED public financing, and I think Feingold would be the best person to lead that fight. He also is probably the best person in the Senate to champion civil liberties and rights, having fought for them against bigger opposition through his career (the Patriot Act, The Communications Decency Act part of the Telecomm Act, etc.). On those two issues alone, I like the guy, but he is so well set for the other issues too, like trying to make this president answerable for his actions in Iraq and domestic spying.

I too would like him to get married in the coming years so that someone doesn't try to hang him for that piece of nonsense, and I still don't see the problem of running someone of Jewish faith too. We did have Liebermann in as VP last time, though he was a bad example of someone from that group.

Would just want to make sure that if Feingold leaves the Senate to be pres. or VP, that we don't have someone like Sensenbrenner put in his place as Wisconsin Senator. That would be a BIG loss!

15. Your REGURGITATION of RIGHT WING TALKING POINTS does not impress me
Edited on Wed May-10-06 04:35 PM by emulatorloo
"I disapprove with what he did during the Vietnam War" - Swiftboat Vets
"I don't like how he tends to flip flop" - Republican National Committee

"He doesn't have enough charisma, it seems, to be President" - Karl Rove, Terry Holt, Republican Noise Machine, Rush Limbag etc

"Maybe that's just the right getting in my head" - well, you're right about something!

I am not saying you are a right winger, but the rightwing talking points are so pervasive that it is easy to absorb them.

"Fiengold has a CLEAR PLAN, and seems to be ready to run the country." - as did Kerry and Gore. Just because the rightwing spews BS 24/7 doesn;t mean you have to buy into it.

PS Welcome to DU :hi:

And what didn't you like about Kerry during the Vietnam war? That he saved so many lives while risking his own, or that he came back and told the truth to the country about the lies they were being told by their POLITICIANS?

And part of his logic is unassailable- until we have some kind of control over SOME of the levers of government, our elected representatives can't do a whole hell of a lot.

48. Not really.
Personally, I think the fact he is Jewish is completely irrelevant to the issue of his electability, since NeoNazis tend to not vote for Democrats anyway, but in every single thread about Feingold, somebody has to raise the issue. I just thought that bringing it up ironically would nip it in the bud. I'd forgotton that DU is becoming less liberal and that my post could be mistaken for being serious.

I love they way people say, oh I like him a lot but---- I like him a lot but nothing... You want to be negative, that's fine...

I on the other hand will think people are caring more about war, their rights, the deficit, than whether Feingold is Jewish or has been divorced.... The rules have nothing to do with it now, the people who are tired of all this crap will set the rules....

44. Negative?
I simply have an opinion, in this case a strong one. Winning in 2008 is all that matters. You can think people will be focused on war, civil rights, defecits etc and will give the "issues" a higher priority than the candidates "character", "moral compass" and personality traits in general. However, there is no historic precedent for that.

45. People are tired of moral fiber, this
country reeks of politicians with their so-called moral fiber and they are crooks, look at Bush and Company, professed to be so moral.. Also Clinton didn't do too bad with the dems, even when he got a blow-job, so I think there is precedent for it.....
