New Rule: Will Pitt should be required to point out over the outfield...
... BEFORE he hits his home runs.

Yah, I know there's already a thread on it - is another so bad? LOL

" You, sir, should not be asking why so many of your email friends are so angry. You should be asking why you yourself are not with them in their rage. I have admired a number of your articles over these last years, and know that you are no fool regarding our situation in Iraq and here at home. It isn't your grasp of the issues that concerns me, but the absence of outrage. Do you really care about the things you write about, or is all this merely grist for the mill that provides you a paycheck?"

Wouldn't surprise me in the least if this was the first thing written, and the rest of the open letter fell into place around it.

It's hard to know what's worse - manufactured outrage over non-issues like song-linguistics, or the absence of real outrage over real issues...

Sigh.

But he already drinks enough beer.

3. Bloo
did you know that's how I, and many others here, found DU?

6. LOL - I had no idea....
... I can easily see how something of a pied-piper effect could've taken place - he does write excellently.

Thanks for a snippet of old-school history!

5. Whoa. The depth of misunderstanding is such that I'm not sure...
... what a helpful response would be....

I'll try: Do you know what a home run is? If you don't, suffice it to say that a home run is a GOOD thing.

7. Sorry, but you puzzled me. When I read this -
"manufactured outrage over non-issues like song-linguistics, or the absence of real outrage over real issues..." I thought you were referring to Will. I now get you're referring to Cohen. My apologies.
I have seen Will almost run off from DU because of hurtful comments, so thank you for clarifying.:hi:

9. I gotcha now....
... I'd intended to be expressing solidarity with what Pitt said, and extending his thought to encompass the "opposite" issue of manufactured outrage...

My bad - I'm no Will Pitt, as it were - LOL

8. I take it this is in response to Richard Cohen's idiotic pieces re:Colbert
...

I'll assume it is, and try to hunt down the other thread. Anyway, Good job, Will.

What I don't understand is why my local paper, constantly slammed for "liberal bias" by the usual gaggle of AM Radio pinheads, devotes half its editorial space to useless, 50 IQ culture warriors like Cal Thomas, another 1/4 to "moderate" voices from Sacramento that always seem to love Arnold Schwarzennegger- and then, in the interest of "balance", occasionally run a piece by a self-proclaimed "liberal" like Richard (gak!) Cohen, nevermind the fact that AFAIK he STILL supports the God-Damn Iraq war.

Short of Molly Ivins, there's a serious dearth of truly liberal voices in the media, we know that. I think we should start seriously pushing the MSM to include viewpoints like Mr. Pitt's.

11. Yes, Krugman's good. Although he hasn't been run in my paper lately.
I also like Leonard Pitts a lot, and a few others. But it's nowhere near the balance that it should be. Seems the media would much rather throw up these phony-faux "liberals" than expose people to the real deal.

12. Yah - since the NYT locked up their editorials....
... I've missed practically all of em...

Hopefully this is a widespread phenomenon, and will force the NYT to open it back up.

15. Truthout normally posts NYT editorials
and DUers routinely find the free links and post them in the Editorials Forum.
