Nuclear testing in Nevada postponed due to lawsuit! ???
Edited on Wed May-10-06 08:13 AM by lonestarnot
There is some dispute as to whether it is really postponed, but originally it was planned for 6/2/06.

1. Well, its not really nuclear testing...
It is 700 tons of conventional high explosive.

The concern is all the fallout from the nuclear testing era (which ended in '92 I believe) that this might stir up.

And the test is to test how well a nuclear bunker buster would work without actually using a nuclear weapon.

3. Yes, conventional test in advance of nuclear use.

4. It is a good thing that the Shundahai Tribe is fighting yes.
Edited on Wed May-10-06 08:32 AM by lonestarnot
Shundahai is not a tribe, but means something about peace (it's in the link). The native American's whose land the test is being conducted is taking them to the mat. Bus caravans are being currently planned in protest of this event. If interested contact United For Peace and Justice.

5. also says this from the article
Edited on Wed May-10-06 08:18 AM by hiley
News 4 contacted the federal Defense Threat Reduction Agency and Nevada Test Site, the offices responsible for performing the large-scale bomb test.

Representatives for both agencies said the test has not been postponed, and is still on schedule to be held on June 2.

A Nevada Test Site spokesman said the test is contingent upon resolution of: Hager's lawsuit, and receipt of environmental permits from the State of Nevada. The spokesman said a revised environmental assessment was to be made public late today, with new information addressing public concerns over the bomb test.

<clip>

The test would be the largest non-nuclear bomb blast on record. The Pentagon is using "Divine Strake" to test non-nuclear weapons that could be used to destroy weapons of mass destruction held in deep-underground bunkers.

that the test is a precursor for bombing Iran and the Crusades have been revived?

Edited on Wed May-10-06 08:28 AM by hiley
DIVINE STRAKE

Divine:

Having the nature of or being a deity. Of, relating to, emanating from, or being the expression of a deity: sought divine guidance through meditation. Being in the service or worship of a deity; sacred. Superhuman; godlike. Supremely good or beautiful; magnificent: a divine performance of the concerto. Extremely pleasant; delightful: had a divine time at the ball. Heavenly; perfect.

Strake:

A device for controlling air flow over an aircraft. A strake is also a part of a boat or ship used for generally the same purpose in water rather than air. It is a strip of planking in a wooden vessel or of plating in a metal one, running longitudinally along the vessel's side, its bottom or between them on the turn of the bilge.

7. This isn't a nuclear bomb test,
This is just a very, very big bomb. However one of the concerns about this test is since it is being blown up in the Nevada test range, people are worried that the explosion will send tons of radioactive dust, left over from our previous nuke bomb tests, up into the atmosphere to spread across the country east of Nevada.

Living in Missouri, I'm not particularly happy about this. We were a regular recipient of nuclear fallout back in the days. My high school chem teacher would come out the morning after such a test, take a swipe from the hood of his car and bring it in to the geiger counter at work and watch the machine start counting. Some of those counts were pretty heavy. In fact there was/is some serious concern about milk from Wisconsin due to the fallout. Radioactive material contaminates the grass, the cows eat the grass, and their milk becomes radioactive.

This test isn't needed, it is simply more militant posturing by this misadministration.

31. No one should be using anything with radioactive fall out.
Edited on Wed May-10-06 12:39 PM by Cleita
That also means the weapons we are using as a matter of course with depleted uranium should be forbidden. I think this alone should be grounds for impeaching, trying and imprisoning the whole Bush adminstration and all the Pentagon brass who agree with them.
