conicidence?

On edit- based on the bell curve for IQ. 90-110 being avg. means 50% fall into that range. 25% below and 25% above. Assuming the bell is perfect, 25% will have 90-100, and 25 below that (I added in my own lil curve of 10%, so that way the estimate would be conservative). Of the, out of the top 17 IQ wise, only 2 went to Bush.

3. I don't trust statistics...
Statistics are a numerical representation of what is happening in "reality."

And we all know that "reality" has a strong Liberal bias.

6. Latest USA Today/Gallup poll has Bush @ 31%.
As to the IQ thing, here's the distribution of intelligence scores among the general population--each section represents one standard deviation; the centre of the curve is at 100. 34% of the population is between 85 and 100, another 14% are between 70 and 85.:

13. The IQ diagram is even different
Because it is more difficult to get a higher IQ than it is to get a lower IQ.

So the real distribution of the test is more like this:

And that is the best representation of the standard diagram which is used to get 100.

23. Yeah, I know...
but the standard bell curve is a decent rough representation.

Then of course we're left with the question of what exactly it is that intelligence tests measure; there are those who argue that their only real usefulness is in determining how proficient one is at taking such tests, which would make them recursive, self-referential exercises in futility.

24. The usefulness is even different
Surprisingly it turns out that IQs above 140 do not lead to successful lives or careers, because high IQ spawns laziness and proneness to intellectual masturbation like taking IQ tests or posting or messageboards.

25. Or trying to work out a 'theory of everything'...
(like the supposed 'smartest man in the world', who IIRC is a part-time bar bouncer).

But then it depends on how one defines 'success'; someone whose world is mostly inside his/her head isn't going to be so concerned with the shallow materialism that defines 'success' for most people; intellectual fulfilment would be of a higher order of priority than becoming wealthy/'successful'.

26. That bar bouncer was one of the smartest. I read that story as well
I use the definition of 'success' in today's society. Actually I personally don't care about material wealth and I doubt whether I ever had.

When I was in my mid twenties I wanted to become a millionaire to become financially independent and in weird way I got close, but the closer I got the worse my life became and less happy I started to feel and somehow it wouldn't have lead to independence either, but to bondage to work and just worries about irrelevant things.

Especially things like flying all over the world which sounded marvellous in the beginning, but in reality you ended up lonely in a hotel room in a strange country and the highlight of the days were boring meetings or Wolfgang in Germany - he had the right name as well - who subjected me to a four hour interrogation while I still had a jetlag and it was just to sell a shitty software program. I went back to the room and I just wondered why I even bothered.

29. what on earth are those axes?
Surely the x-axis can't be IQ, which is what one would initially assume given what you've said. And I have no idea what the y-axis is.

30. x is number of points and y is the frequency after adjusting
Edited on Tue May-09-06 02:08 PM by DrDebug
This was the diagram before adjusting the outcome to fit the curve

Part of http://www.prometheussociety.org/mcreport/memb_comm_rept.html

Because this is not a standard distribution, the outcome first has to be recalculated to fit the curve and the points which you see after the recalculation show how well it fits to curve and it is always too steep on the high IQ extreme and too flat on the low IQ extreme.

By definition, a person of 100 IQ is "average intelligent". That means that precisely 50% of the population has higher IQ and 50% has lower IQ.

I don't know where you get the 40%.

12. No, no, no, no, no!
By definition, 50% are below average. That's how IQ is defined. 100 IQ is *always* the average of the population with 50% of the population above, and 50% of the population below. Look at the bell curve above and you'll see.

14. It is a sales job
The most important step in sales is having something in common with the customer. People like to buy stuff from those they are comfortable with. In this case, they must be comfortable with Bush that shares the same low IQ and probably the fake cowboy image.

Expect the popularity to continue downward as more people (60%) wake up.
