Karbala bombing, sectarian killings roil Iraq
15 minutes ago
BAGHDAD (AFP) - Fifteen people were killed in a car bomb attack in the Shiite holy city of Karbala and police uncovered the bodies of dozens of murdered men as Iraq remained engulfed in sectarian violence.
Forty-five victims of execution-style sectarian killings were found and more than a dozen people reported killed in other violence across Iraq, reinforcing fears the country remains on the brink of civil war as it seeks to finalise a new government.
The new bloodshed also came a day after a British helicopter was apparently shot down in the southern city of Basra, prompting clashes as a furious mob tried to impede recovery efforts.

A few hours earlier, Iraqi police said they has found the bullet-riddled bodies of 45 men killed in apparent sectarian attacks, an interior ministry official said.
He said 28 bodies were found in Baghdad's western Kharkh area, while another 15 were recovered from the eastern Rusafa district. Two other bodies were found south of Baghdad.
