That bastard will lie about anything
I saw a post by Bush_Eats_Beef that got me thinking...

BERLIN (Reuters) - U.S. President George W. Bush told a German newspaper his best moment in more than five years in office was catching a big perch in his own lake.

"You know, I've experienced many great moments and it's hard to name the best," Bush told weekly Bild am Sonntag when asked about his high point since becoming president in January 2001.

"I would say the best moment of all was when I caught a 7.5 pound (3.402 kilos) perch in my lake," he told the newspaper in an interview published on Sunday

Harford County Yellow Perch Sets World Record
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Last weekend, Phil Deer, Jr. of Delta, Pennsylvania caught a record setting yellow perch in a pond in Harford County. The perch is the largest ever caught in Maryland and the fourth largest on record in the world. DNR confirmed the perch’s size as 3 pounds, 5 ounces and 16 ¼ inches long, which eclipsed the Maryland record of 2 pounds 6.75 ounces set at Deep Creek Lake in 2003. Worldwide, Deer’s fish places behind a 4 pound, 3 ounce perch caught in New Jersey in 1865; a 3 pound, 12 ounce perch caught in Michigan in 1947; and a 3 pound, 8 ounce perch caught in New York in 1982. All records are for the fresh water division.

the state record is 12.5 pounds. that's probably what he was referring to.

10. I know of no one who stocks Nile perch in farm tanks.
They require moving water.

Nile perch will eat everything in sight.

8. The names of fish in German could be misinterpeted
The interview was translated from German

I bet he caught a catfish

But good catch, I use to fish for those when I lived in Texas and know they don't get that big.

16. Yet, it sounds better than saying the "Do Not Call List:".
Any jokey answer is going to sound better than a serious one. If he answered it seriously, then it's either going to be something pathetically small, like the Do Not Call List, or something that lots would argue were not a success at all or connected to a larger failure, like his tax cuts or overthrowing Saddam.

18. Seriously- this is one of those perfect metaphors.
This should be covered humorously in all the blogs. Just as Cheney's shooting of that old man and then covering it up was a perfect incapsulation of the Bush Admin's methods, this fish thing sums up junior's regard for the truth perfectly.

19. Amazing
Absolutely, positively, friggin' amazing. The world record for a perch (white or yellow) is under 5 pounds. So it must have been a baby Nile perch? Yeah, that's the ticket.

In reality, he probably does not know what kind of fish he caught, and he also does not know how much it weighed. He might have caught a fish that day, but the rest he just made up. He lied.

He clearly does not understand what a lie is in the way you or I understand it.

21. CaIm down, folks. I suspect an error in translation is behind this...
The interview was given to a german newspaper - largemouth bass (which don't occur in Germany) might have easily been mis-translated to perch. To complicate matters, largemouth bass are actually members of the perch family, while many species of perch are actually members of the bass family - confusing, ain't it?

25. this from the guy who claims he knows all about water conservation!
Bush makes a big thing of bragging about how he knows the value of water (unlike those spoiled easterners) -- but building a pond in a place which has extremely high potential evapotranspiration rates is rather wasteful.

I heard that, the first summer, a lot of the fish died because so much of the pond dried up (and the temperature went way up, with the water so shallow). I don't know if he's fixed the problem since (e.g. by deepening the pond or putting in more water).
