Rumsfeld's bad day in Atlanta
Edited on Sun May-07-06 10:58 AM by Harper_is_Bush
World Can't Wait: It just wasn't a good day for Rummy. He usually speaks only to "safe" audiences of carefully selected military personnel. But on May 4, he made the mistake of speaking to a public audience at the Southern Center of International Studies in Atlanta. The result was predictable!
snip
Toughest of all for Rumsfeld was the persistent questioning from Ray McGovern. McGovern.... put a hard line of questioning to Rumsfeld beginning with "Why did you lie to get us into a war that caused these kind of casualties and was not necessary." Cops were about to drag off McGovern when Rumfeld waived them off and lamely tried to respond.
snip

"They gave the world their honest opinion," Rumsfeld added. "It appears that there were no weapons of mass destruction."

McGovern shot back,
"You said you knew where they were," referring to the Iraqi weapons.

"I did not," Rumsfeld retorted. "I said I knew where suspect sites were."

"You said you know where they were, near Tikrit, near Baghdad, and north, east, south and west of there. Those are your words," McGovern shot back.

2. bullies are cowards, and pick their victims carefully.
that's why the bush gang will not appear in places that are not heavily monitored and screened.

the bush gang has learned that most media reps are toadies and boot lickers, and only rarely does
someone with an opposing view or guts to speak out get thru (that colbert guy).

When pressed or challenged, the bush mob gets angry and defensive for all the world to see. THAT's why
they try to keep everything under control, so they will not be revealed for what they really are.

IMO

That's why I think dems should challenge bush co early and often.

3. This was a fairly well-screened croud...
McGovern had to fill out an extensive online form with questions about his past etc.

He was "surprised" when a ticket came in the mail. Whoever was doing the screening probably just didn't know about his activism after he left the CIA...they just assumed a company man was OK.

edit: Some protestors got in, but it was a screened event requiring personal information be provided ahead of time. If you listen to the reactions to McGoverns speech (and the koolaid drinking puke who spoke after him) it's obviously a croud of rightwing Rummy lovers.

7. Amazing. I didn't know they were
that selective about their "public" meetings. Unbelievable. And in spite of that, look at the result of that meeting. Lots of angry people. They get dragged out, one by one.

You know what this means? This means that they probably can't even hold super-selected, hyper screened, fans-only meetings. Because anger is running high these days.
