World Wide Left and Democrats
It is my opinion that the Democratic Party's job is to elect candidates here in the us.

I cast my first vote for Dukakis while entering the ANG. I was proud of the job clinton did and remain proud of the fact that he chose a great staff to carry out the business of the nation.

I think it is a HORRIBLE error for democrats to involve themselves with the election of "Leftist" candidates in other nations.

Our Left is not on par with socialist beliefs carried by many leaders. And when these leaders do terrible things we are left with that association.

What is gained by supporting Hugo Chavez? Nothing. I do not believe we should interfere with his government by any means. We can maintain relationships with nations without support of governments.

Face it, Americans do not understand the world political scene. Have no concept of Labor or Torrie, Christian democrats.

Concentrate on what is in their lives and we win:

Minimum Wage
Energy Cost
Government Spending
Mismanagement in government
Mismanagement of the War (Rumsfeld doctrine in the Army for example)

These issues win.

Drop gun control (dead)
Figure out a fair policy on stem cells and womens rights. (very hard to please people here)

Rant off. Fire for effect.

1. Yeah, I agree with you...Tony Blair used to be a hero of mine
Before his premature telephone call congratulating * for winning the 2000 election. His actions since that time have all been downhill. We have plenty enough on our plate here at home (Lord knows!) without borrowing troubles overseas.

2. We cannot insulate ourselves from the world...
nor should we even try, at most we should lobby our government to have a policy of non-intereference into other nations political development, this should be a given, but our government has a bad track record in this regard, hence the defensiveness of elected leaders like Chavez, they have a tendancy to get killed by our government, and death squads result.

Not to mention more direct links with foriegn governments, for example, for all intents and purposes, the United States, Canada, and Mexico all share the same economy, we just keep the illusion of being independent. As such, any domestic policy of any of these nations can have dramatic effect on others, witness the Illegal Immigration upswing since NAFTA's approval. Same goes for China as well. We ignore all at our peril, for if we are to have true progress in this world, we must engage in talks with this world.
