I want to broaden my knowledge base by adding sources I'm not accessing.

Although I avoid news in the A.M except for the BBC on the radio, you will find me checking out these sites:

http://digg.com
http://reddit.com
http://newsvine.com

And not as frequently any more but also http://slashdot.org

Oh, and of course, http://www.neuralgourmet.com/brainsnacks

4. Democratic Underground is usually first

This is a news site, right? At the least, it's a source of my personal volunteers that scour the web for me. ;)

Josh Marshall's Talking Points Memo.

Atrios/Eschaton. (Though, I'm getting tired of that one, especially "Yeah, yeah another stupid open thread." And shrillness doesn't necessarily equal news. Looking for a replacement.)

Slashdot. (I check them for issues of encroaching fascism, especially in the electronic world.)

New York Times.

which the MSM doesn't provide. Then I cross-reference that with MSNBC for a sense of what the MSM wants to avoid discussing. I vote up or down on stories worthy of the star system, 1/2 or 5. (Many on DU cross-reference w/Fox, Free Republic or Drudge. I never log on to any of those due to high BP and the need to keep stress levels low.) Then I go to DU for Latest Breaking and Greatest posts (doing my bit to vote up posts I feel should make the list). I check out DailyKos for research, and then Common Dreams for editorials I may have missed elsewhere.

Ray Taliafero has mentioned sites he likes to read. I didn't write them down, but since I hadn't heard of them before, I thought it would be a good idea to get into the habit of checking other sites out, especially since bloggers have filled the vacuum that the MSM has left behind.

10. This is a good question
Depending on what's going on that day, in no order:

firedoglake- I think this the best political blog out there right now.

Raw Story- Indespensable.

DU- For breaking news, it's the best site.

CBC- It gets alot of flack by Canadians that have never really how bad the dearth of straight-ahead news is in the US. Since I've been up here I always go here for National and Internation news.

Edmonton Journal- Hometown news.

14. I don't do five, I do two, LA Times and WaPo
I used to do NY Times, but quit when they started that pay BS.
After the two news sites, I go straight to the blogs. Right now, firedoglake is first on the list.
