Kennedy calls on Sensenbrenner to Sell his stock in companies hiring illegals
Bryan Kennedy called on his opponent, Congressman Jim Sensenbrenner, to divest himself of any stock that he holds in companies that have been found to hire illegal immigrants. According to an AP article, in October a Halliburton subcontractor, hired to do Hurricane Katrina recovery work, allegedly had about 100 illegal immigrant employees detained. According to a financial disclosure filed in May 2005, Sensenbrenner has a significant investment in Halliburton.
“Sensenbrenner has been telling us that it is un-American for business owners to hire illegal immigrants. Now that we find him profiting off the backs of these immigrants, he should put his money where his mouth is and divest himself from any company who is using undocumented workers to earn a higher profit,” said Kennedy.
“After all of the criticism that Jim Sensenbrenner has piled onto small business owners, I’d hope that the Congressman has been responsible about investing only in companies that don’t profit from illegal labor and that this instance is just a mistake. However, it’s fair to ask him if he owns stock in any other companies that employ illegal immigrants, and to ask if he has ever hired any illegal immigrants himself.”
Kennedy supports a more realistic, pro-family, immigration policy, and says that we should be focusing on securing the borders and streamlining the process for legal immigration. He also has criticized Jim Sensenbrenner’s legislation that would make felons out of priests, nuns and soup kitchen workers who give humanitarian aid to immigrants as “unethical, immoral and unAmerican.”
