3. Why would any of you vote for greedy? We don't even know her? My
question is serious.

I have no problem with the option. I would expect 0 votes? Am I wrong or is my post invalid because it questions?

5. Why do you have trouble
with someone's choice?

I mean, you asked. So you got answers.

What's wrong with someone having an opinion that YOU set up?

Sheeesh.

22. I set up? It's not my poll. I just said I'm not objecting to the poll.
But, I expected to see zero votes because I can't see how anyone could know her well enough to say she is greedy as in a greedy person.

Anyway, I didn't set up the poll.

I put it in there because I wanted to make my choice clear. I could have just as easily (& maybe should have)
made the other choices # 2 : "blah"
# 3: "blah"
# 4: "blah"

Or I could have kept choice # 1, and made the second choice "other"

49. You can have good intentions and also
have an eye on profit and vanity. People have mixture of motives. I don't think it is right to imply you are a Freeper just because you have an opinion on her book deal.

Reminds me of a post on Hillary Clinton and how she has shares in WalMart and has not spoken out on their healthcare policies. People were threatening the freeper word on that one too.

They both look like very fancy people to me, and used to luxury I think. So they are in the middle of the gigantic political intrigue, they are still human beings.

51. Everyone wants to be an author,
or, as my favorite godson referred to me when my first book came out, an "arthur."

Greed isn't necessarily about money, as we know. People want. That's what keeps us going.

Now, everyone can be Ari Fleischer and Clark Kent Irvin and hurry up and get their books out, no matter what, and I'm not certain that's anything to be proud of.

People used to take years to write books about their government service, but they were people with dignity and self-restraint, and, perhaps the value I miss almost as much as dignity, self-respect.

58. Ah, c'mon Leftie, she just wants to set the record straight
and she has the opportunity to do so. I would too, in her position. I think we should get off the profit thing. You know and I know that pride in one's own work and profession is a pretty strong motivator.

She has the chance to get her word in, and she's doing it. I don't blame her one bit.

Can't wait to read it, BTW (from the public library of course. I'm too Scotch to buy it).

4. It's so disillusioning
The way her husband grabbed his already-written autobiography and rushed it into a book deal as soon as his celebrity - well-earned, by the way - was born just left me thinking that something was off here, just a bit.

Then that Vanity Fair picture, all glamorous and precious, which they later said they regretted.

Then they show up at the White House Correspondents' Dinner, which I regarded as simply bad judgment and bad taste. I don't think it's wise to visit with the people who have tried to destroy you and your lives, do you?

And now a book deal? Oh, she hardly needs the money, and do you honestly think there's going to be anything in that book that will be of any interest? Do you know how tightly the CIA controls what former employees can write?

The Wilson-Plames, while I feel for them and admire what Joe Wilson has done to put it to Fuckface and Company, have, in my opinion, abandoned any pretense of dignity. And that cheapens them in my eyes, and it makes me sad.

I did.

It was very little about what had recently happened, but it was a long and pretty good yarn about his life.

The ms had been in his desk for a long time. He was just waiting for it to become marketable.

No, not greed.

Desire to be recognized. That's what drives a lot of people, you know.

40. Not selling much, huh? Thought I detected some envy there.
Notoriety helps sell books. Sometimes it's undeserved (criminals, movie starts). Sometimes it's pure justice - and the Wilsons are it. And yeah, her book will sell milliofold anything you might sell - DU-ers will buy it, libraries will stack it - and I am happy for them if it makes them rich as well.
Your grudge is beneath contempt! I thought only freepers blame others for their own inadequacies.

It's safer for them, and good for us. These people (+ Fitz) may be the saviors of democracy.
It was Pentagon Papers Daniel Ellsberg's advice to all whistleblowers: BE VISIBLE! STAY PUBLIC!

Why do you think dignity = staying hidden?
I loved them there putting the criminals to shame! They are not the ones that didn't belong there.
You got it all upside down, my friend!

14. Who said "HIDE"?
That's hardly what I wrote, and you really shouldn't put that kind of gloss on my words, because it perverts the whole import.

I never said dignity is staying hidden. Where did you get THAT?

Do you routinely socialize with people who have done things to ruin you?

Dignity. Look it up and think about it. I'm aching for someone heroic.

Consider Patrick Fitzgerald. Then compare.

Be visible? Stay public?

Oh, my goodness, you surely didn't get it.

Oh, well.

I still prefer dignity and distance. Their credibility is eroding daily, and I'm not sure they understand that.

As I said, that Vanity Fair picture was one of their big regrets. Too bad they didn't learn from it.

Ah, well, we might not have heroes - oh, and the Wilson-Plames have jobs, too, unless you don't count his consulting firm or her being a full-time mother, which I guess you don't - but at least we can hope for a reasonable facsimile thereof.

Do you think human nature had suddenly changed with the appearance of Joe and Valerie Wilson's fame? I don't.

Don't get me wrong. I like Joe, think he cute and all. She's a babe, etc, etc.

It's all Washington stuff. They live in a funny vacuum. I lived there for almost 10 years and couldn't wait to get out.

I think we should focus on the political situation and what actually happened to them. That's more important than whether they were at that dinner or not.

We'll see what happens...

going to publish a book. Should be good. It will have some folks upset -- for example, I saw that Fox News was already trying to smear both Joe and Valerie. In my opinion, there is a way to measure people's inner being with this. I trust no one, no matter how hard they try to pretend they are someone on the side of justice in this case, when they use sly tactics to discredit Mr. and Ms. Wilson. It reminds me of what the OVP/WHIG did.
