I hadn't seen this version before, and it's very well done. I love how it starts with the famous blue helmets from the sixties and cuts to the current police troops to show that only the uniform has changed. As it progresses, the line between then and now is blurred as protest pics are shown while Mario Savio speaks... amazing. The clips of Bush literally and metaphorically giving us the finger, (Well, hello, Nixon! Way to pound a nail in your own political coffin.) along with past and current Congressional comment is powerful. Barbara Jordan? WOW!
The
original Britannica film is chilling in its own right in a dated, folksy way. Modernization of that clip needed to strike a balance that kept the message intact and updated it while respecting the tone and meaning of the source. Somebody succeeded BIG time. Good job to whoever made that.
edit: corrected spelling of Mario Savio's name.
