Tim Robbins:'Clinton Lied About A Blowjob-Bush Lied About War'
Tim Robbins Blasts Bush and U.S. Media Ignorance of ‘High Crimes’ in Iraq
Posted by Pamela Leavey
May 2nd, 2006 @ 11:21 pm

At a news conference in Athens promoting his stage version of George Orwell’s “1984,” actor/director Tim Robbins blasted the U.S. government’s policy on terrorism and the U.S. media’s failure to critically examine it.

“We have right now a media that is willfully ignoring the high crimes and misdemeanours of the president of the United States,” the star of Hollywood hits including “Mystic River” and “The Player” told reporters.

“Clinton lied about a blowjob, and got impeached by the media and Congress,” Robbins said.

“(Bush) got us into (the Iraq) war based on lies that he knew were lies. … His war has recruited more Al-Qaeda members than Osama bin Laden could ever have dreamed for … yet no one in the media is calling for impeachment,” he said.

Robbins pointed out similarities between current US policies on terrorism and the authoritarian society described by Orwell.
..............
“In my country we seem to be sanctioning renditioning of innocent people without trial … put them in jail without telling anyone … and torture them out of suspicion of what we think they might do,” Robbins said.

Edited on Wed May-03-06 06:58 AM by Selatius
What's the rightwing argument that's trotted out when this happens?

"I pay you to entertain me; I don't pay you to talk about politics! Shut up, you communist!"

3. Then I reply with ...
Shannen Doherty
Kelsey Grammar
Bruce Boxleitner
Kurt Russell
Chuck Norris
George Wendt
Drew Carrey
Ron Silver
Shirley Jones (yes -- Mrs. Partridge)
Jessica Simpson
Fred Dalton Thompson
Pat Sajack

and of course

Der Gropenführer

Okay, a few are Libertarians (Boxleitner and Russell) and self-described "Liberal Republicans" (Grammar).
But it's the wingnuts' thoughts -- or lack of them -- that count.

15. Point taken -- but I don't think of them as being "Hollywood"
There are so many points that could be made. That's why the only reason the Right can win is by monopolizing the Media.

7. why does clinton even have to be brought up?
what bush and his administration have done has nothing to do with clinton:

1. lying about Iraq, and involving us in a war based on those lies
2. outing a CIA agent
3. illegal wire tapping of Americans
4. failure to heed the warnings prior to 9/11
5. involving government in people's private lives
6. destruction of our economy by offshoring jobs
7. destruction of our environment
8. no energy plan

and for six years most democrats in congress essentially rubber-stamped everything he threw at them

Even today, they are afraid to commit on Censure or even Impeachment, though what this administration has done more than justifies it.

13. Ya know what is indeed ironic about this?
They put Clinton under oath about something that had nothing to do with the people of this country. And that goddamn Arlen Specter failed to put Alberto Gonzales under oath at a NSA hearing.

16. Those are the exact words I use when arguing with Resmuglicans
"Clinton lied about a BLOW JOB..." and then I go on to launch into everything I can think of that Bush has lied about.

Most people I am arguing with take issue to the word "blow job". They think it's "dirty" or "lewd" or "language like that doesn't need to be used when debating politics."

I end up telling them to grow up, face the dilemma we're in, and own up to the fact that THEY are a big part of the problem since THEY voted for the idiot.

I couldn't care less if I offend them by the word "blow job." They offend me by their pathetic ignorance.

17. "1984"..how appropriate
for Tim Robbins to be producing and directing this to bring more attention to our lack of a free press and the fascist goverment in the USA.

"The play, produced and directed by Robbins , opened in Athens for a five-day run on Tuesday. Robbins is also hoping direct a film version of the play in the fall."

I'll be looking forward to "1984" the movie.
