My two cents on the Immigration protests.
First off the demonstrations would not of had the numbers or geographical distribution if the Republicans did not try to legislate them in to felons for political gain. The people whom plot policy knew that their targets would react, and they had hope to use the reaction to shore up, and ad to their base. Those same people are probably 50/50, delighted in the response it drew from their base (yes I'm winking at more then a few "*DU*" posters), and frightened at the size of the giant they awoken. Now the powers that be can not ignore the child they helped midwife in to the political arena, and that makes me smile.

These people that so many want to vilify are not demanding citizenship as much as they are trying to protect what they have earned in this country. Many of these people have business, homes, U.S. citizen offspring, their hopes and dreams located here. Many in this area (I am a fifth generation native of Los Angeles) have relatives that have crossed and recrossed the border to work and raise their families long before that border existed. Most of those that arrived here from Central America were fleeing right-wing death squads that we installed, financed, and trained during the thirties through the eighties.

Personally I don't give a flying fuck what Jesus would have done.. I just know what I would have done if I was in an impoverished third world country, and there, just a harrowing journey north, was a land where my children would have hope and a new way of life.

I may not want them here, but I do understand why they swirl all around me. They are every bit the new century's Americans. They came here for the same reasons that most of your ancestors left their homelands, the only difference is that upon arrival to these shores, these new immigrants, these New Century Americans, did not proceeded to murder my ancestors, and by force and "lawful decree" invade my homeland. That job was done by the forefathers of the more indignant among you.

8. That's truthiness for ya!
Why can't we just let them become citizens. Let's make all immigrants citizens and raise the minimum wage so everyone can pay taxes. There. Problem solved.

3. There isn't a country in the world that hasn't been invaded by
another country at some time in history.

The Hispanics from South and Central America are the result of invasions and conquest by Spain.

What's your point?

4. Hispanics are from Hispanol.. Spain.
The people that are migrating are primarily of indigenous blood. I've been to Spain, these people are not "hispanic". My "point", or personal view of the issue is:
1, The size of the demonstrations are the result of a republican "shore the base maneuverer".
2, To be human, that is to want a better life, is not inherently criminal, or immoral.
3, I prefer these new "invaders" to the old ones.
4, I think this whole debate smacks of hypocrisy.
Does this answer your question?

7. What do you mean about preferring the new "invaders" to the old
ones.

What on earth are you talking about?

And I've been to Spain too and lots of the newcomers speak SPANISH. They absorbed the Spanish culture.

13. By old invaders
I meant the Europeans. What you may view as Manifest Destiny, I view as an invasion. The issue we are discussing I do not view as an invasion, I view as a migration.

As to absorbing Spanish culture..

Just because I only speak english does not mean I feel like oppressing an Irishman, or eating a crumpet. I do not at all feel or to my knowledge display any absorption of English culture other than the U.S. version of the English language.

15. Well following English Common Law is okay with me.
We have all absorbed from the previous immigrants, and the English were/are no worse than any other ethnic group.

It all goes in cycles.

5. I've got one set of ancestors
who were repeatedly beat up and oppressed by the Vikings, the Romans, and the British, who fled to America to try to get out of that cycle of destruction and were reviled and discriminated against by the Americans of the times. I have another set of ancestors who were here already, and they got beat up and oppressed by the American government, and are to this day reviled by a certain segment of the population.

I sure as hell ain't standing on the top of any heap.

6. Can I have my money back?

I have spent $3000+ to allow my wife to get a green card. If we offer amnesty can I get my money back? It's going to be another 2 years....

She's also paid over $8000 in taxes.

If the illegals want to stay - pay the $$ and fill out the paperwork. It's that simple.

9. Do I look like a U.S. Government Paymaster?
It amuses me that you fly a foreign flag and it is likely that those supposed "*DU'ers*" whom have criticized others for flying other nation's flags won't say a peep about yours.

If amnesty is offered you can bet they will que up and pay what it takes to get through the process. I pay, you pay, your wife pays, and yes illegals pay taxes. Most don't work under the table. They pay in to FICA SS and State and Federal income taxes, so I hope your wife does not feel too put upon.

IMHO If you could walk to this country from the U.K. or the Ukraine or where-ever, many that are immersed in the process would be here already, instead of complaining about others circumventing official channels.

16. How do illegals pay taxes?

They would not have an SSN. The employers don't put them 'on the books' do they?

"IMHO If you could walk to this country from the U.K. or the Ukraine or where-ever, many that are immersed in the process would be here already, instead of complaining about others circumventing official channels."

All they have to do is get on a plane and come here and never leave. Yet the biggest problem is with Mexico.

Maybe it's due to convenience.

Regardless, it's either legal or illegal, yes?
