2. The press should be hanging their heads in shame today.
They OWN their bullshit. They have failed their country miserably.

Peace.

5. The press won't cover it because they were Colbert's main target.
Edited on Mon May-01-06 10:32 PM by ocelot
Bush was just collateral damage. Colbert's point was that a terrible president is getting away with being terrible because the media are just a bunch of stenographers.

6. Precisely. . .
My hope is the press will take note of Colbert's "roast" and respond by doing their jobs better. I don't care if they report what he said, just that they respond to what he said.

(Hey, a fellow's gotta dream. . .)

13. I agree. It felt like a big rock had suddenly crested a hill.
and began the plummet down the lee side.

I stood there in total amazement as he bit, stabbed, clubbed, poisoned, and placed in a protracted stress position the mainstream media.

And he still had time to de-pants the entire neocon movement apperantly on lace panty day.

No one who watched it can actually take the administration seriously again, not entirely. They have been skewered. Bush** suffers Lame Duckhood that only nuclear war can erase. Barring that, he is a dangerous, sinister clown.

Indeed, he is everything his remaining supporters say he is, and looking at them one can the problem with sudden clarity.

It was, in fact, the Big Brother parody from 'V' in real time.

16. 285k watch an episode of Pucker Carlson's show....
That's about the size of the West Side of Cleveland....

More people pause on Sponge Bob....

No one watches this guy...

He is filler for a filler "network" that forces cable companies to carry it under threat of charging more to carry the poupular venues GE owns such as USA, Bravo, Sci Fi....

12. They're embarassed for laughing at Bush's WMD joke the first time around
Then they realized the joke was on them. They don't like being reminded what media whores they really are: Operation Mockingbird, PsyOps/CNN, you get the picture.

15. Debs, that scene was one of the most pathetic I've seen. The WMD joke.
Edited on Mon May-01-06 11:43 PM by autorank
Seriously, they're like the brain dead aristocrats in Dr. Zhivago partying and looking down at the
starving peasants on the frozen streets. This time the joke was on them. What an assault on all
of the hypocracy and hypocrites...assembled in their finest, yet still looking frumpy (it's a DC thing,
you'd understand perfectly if you ever run into them).

This the stuff of greatness.
They have to ignore, but it won't work.

The power of WORDS and IDEAS:

he's steady. You know where he stands. He believes the same thing Wednesday, that he believed on Monday, no matter what happened Tuesday. Events can change, this man’s beliefs never will.

or this

But, listen, let's review the rules. Here's how it works. The president makes decisions, he’s the decider. The press secretary announces those decisions, and you people of the press type those decisions down. Make, announce, type. Put them through a spell check and go home. Get to know your family again. Make love to your wife. Write that novel you got kicking around in your head. You know the one about the intrepid Washington reporter with the courage to stand up to the administration. You know fiction.

or this

This ships not sinking.

This administration is soaring. If anything, they are rearranging the deck chairs on The Hindenburg...

or this

I've got a theory about how to handle these retired generals causing all this trouble, don't let them retire. C'mon, we've got a stop loss program; let's use it on these guys. If you're strong enough to go on one of those pundit shows, you can stand on a bank of computers and order men into battle.

or this

Now, I know there are some polls out there saying this man has a 32% approval rating. But guys like us; we don't pay attention to the polls. We know that polls are just a collection of statistics that reflect what people are thinking in "reality." And reality has a well-known liberal bias.

or this

But the rest of you, what are you thinking, reporting on N.S.A. Wiretapping or secret prisons in Eastern Europe? Those things are secret for a very important reason, they’re super depressing.

And if that's your goal, well, misery accomplished.

or this

I have nothing but contempt for these people. I know how to handle these clowns.

22. BBC's March 26, 2004 story shows these press bastards yukking it up
http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/americas/3570845.stm

and then realizing the next day (!) what a bunch of stupid idiot stenographers they really are. They proved it again the other night with Colbert and are now trying to shoot that messenger. Their aim is perpetually off and now they've shot themselves in the foot !

18. Correct
The Fourth Estate has become bloated and useless. They are unaware that moment by moment they become insignificant. We are the media now. At least they'll have more family time now and can finally right that novel they always meant to write, about the intrepid reporter who takes on the powerful in Government, you know, fiction (blatently plagairized).
