I could give a flying fart about the "immigration issue"
I can't seemed to get worked up about it like everybody else.

First, the marching. This country has always taken part in public protest. If people want to protest, good for them.

I saw several Latino "leaders" on the boob tube last night saying, "The best way to get your message across is to go to work, go to school and do your duty."

I say to them...what the fuck? Yea...that's the best way to get your message out...do nothing. Just go to work and hope everything changes on its own.

Second, we are an immigrant country. I laughed when I overheard someone telling another person, "This country has never been through something like this.". Uh...dude...just because you didn't personally witness it, doesn't mean it didn't happen. The Irish, the Italians, the Chinese...everytime a new nationality's immigration to this country booms, people get their feathers in a ruffle. This ain't new...and it'll happen again.

Finally, people should want to come here. We have a great country. Acquiring citizenship in this country has become much more difficult. Why? Well we could have a whole new thread on the reasons why. I personally don't think it should be that tough. I think there should be a serious background check. But watching a gentleman I know deal with the difficulty of getting his citizenship...FOR TEN YEARS...well that's outrageous.

Listen...this whole immigration thing is a distraction. That's what I'm really trying to say. I actually do somewhat care about the whole immigration thing. But not enough to take my eye off the prize...like the assholes in charge want.

1. Not necessarily my Issue either, but it's important
I only wish that more Americans would get as feisty about the issues they care about as the Immigrants have about their issue.

2. That's an excellent way of putting it...
we have issues that I think are MUCH more important...even to our immigrants.

But nobody gives a shit.

5. Thanks, And I agree pretty much, but I would say that
becoming a citizen and obtaining the right to vote is the first step in the process for them. So while other issues may be of greater importance they don't have much of a venue for addressing them until they become a citizen.

3. I only wish the corporate media whores would cover the anti-war
protests as thoroughly as they seem to be covering the immigration rallies.

7. Seems like they have invested interest in supporting one while opposing the
other

12. I can't imagine what that vested interest would be; we're all
Americans. OH, you mean their corporate media interests to rake in the bucks while supporting this failed presidency?

4. I agree
A few Repubs in DC start making noises about sending them all home and we all go nuts. They just want keep us fighting with each other over which unskilled worker has a right to a job instead of the fact NO ONE should have to put up with the conditions that currently exist.

8. It may be a distraction, but it is a problem that does need addressing.
It's YOUR country that is affected, for better or for worse.

You SHOULD care.

9. And read my last little blurb...
I do care. I just can't get that worked up about it.

This...is a case of divide and conquer. They want you to care... A LOT. Now it's become a wedge issue. Gays, guns, God...and now Gringos?

Like I said in my original post. It takes too long for people to get citizenship. If it were more expediant...and available to people without money...you wouldn't see people marching in the streets.

I can't blame them. I'd rather live here than Mexico as well.

10. Was this the agreement?
Mexico lets US corporations pollute its land, and the US takes a few million Mexicans off Mexico's hands.
