Dear Friend,
Dear Friend,

I'm writing to you because you were kind enough to write to me. Over
a year ago, I delivered a speech at the University of Oklahoma that
you turned into a worldwide Internet phenomenon. It was a speech
about the war in Iraq, and the claim of the Bush administration to be
the defenders of Christian moral values. It gave voice to the deepest
frustrations of countless Americans over the direction that this
country is moving, and an even deeper pain at the way religious ideas
are being manipulated to justify irreligious activities.

Because of you, that speech has now been expanded into a book, to be
released on May 19, called "WHY THE CHRISTIAN RIGHT IS WRONG: A
Minister's Manifesto for Taking Back Your Faith, Your Flag, Your
Future" (Jossey-Bass, San Francisco).

Endorsed by Bill Moyers, Desmond Tutu, John Shelby Spong, and the late
William Sloane Coffin Jr., it is a call to non-violent resistance, and
articulates a strategy for taking back the country we love and the
church we hardly recognize anymore.

Information about this book and access to my speech is available at
http://www.josseybass.com/extras/meyers and I will be traveling around
the country this summer to talk about it, and to sow the seeds of a
peaceful but urgent revolution. I hope to meet many of you who wrote
to me and shared your wisdom and your passion.

It would be wonderful if you could spread the word about this book the
way you spread the word of my speech. If you know people for whom that
speech was good medicine, they will find even more encouragement in
this book.

Please pass this e-mail along to them, and look for the book when it
comes out on May 19.

Together, we have important and urgent work to do!

Grace and Peace,

Dr. Robin Meyers
Minister, Mayflower Congregational UCC Church, Oklahoma City
Professor of Rhetoric, Philosophy Department, Oklahoma City University

1. Hey, I remember that speech!
Thanks!

I remember it well, since I passed it on to others and posted it at the PBS Political Discussion board.

I'll pass this info on as well, and I'll check out the book.
