4. Why are dems insisting on supporting this boycott. It's a loser
for us in the fall, just like the marriage amendments. Dems need to just shut up and let the repugs self-destruct. The Hispanic vote is divided on this so it's not going to help us by supporting illegals (get a clue, they are illegals, they don't VOTE!!).

5. Bogus poll, when it doesn't define 'the economy'.
The same growing economy that * keeps bragging about is bolstered by the immigrants, because it supports the bottom line of the corporations. There may be a concurrent effect of suppression of wages paid by those corporations. This also helps the economy. It doesn't particularly help the workers, who see themselves as being the economy -- those of us who say the repubs are lying about a great economy point to depressed wages, lack of insurance, millions forced to live paycheck to paycheck with little capability to build savings.

IMO, their presence here is a wash -- there is no real plus or minus to that. It is their illegal status that is harmful to American workers, and helpful to American corporations, and helpful to the home-care industry of nannies and housekeepers and lawn & garden workers. If they had legal status, they could not be exploited and forced to accept sub-par wages -- just because they are hispanic doesn't mean they LIKE being paid less than a living wage.

7. America, land of the idiots! Sure immigrants live here, but never spend
a penny! They don't contribute to the economy at all. Right!

8. Drive down wages, send their money to foreign countries,
overload the social networks and prison systems costing us taxpayers money... but theyre great for the corporations who profit immensely from the cheap labor.

9. You forgot the illegal part
Illigals do not help, legals do, IMHO.

10. There's no agreement among dems or those of us here.
It's pointless to DU it. The cost to taxpayers to school their children, provide free health services, extra law enforcement, prisons and correctional institutions, as well as the cost to consumers because they drive illegally without auto insurance, far exceeds the profits employers make off them.

I'm voting for "hurt," probably not what you are going for.

13. Whose economy???
Edited on Mon May-01-06 12:43 PM by sparosnare
Because the way things seem to me, the only economy represented by our government is the one that doesn't include the middle class and below.

They can throw numbers around all they want, but I have not had a raise in 2 years yet I'm spending more on fuel, food and necessities than ever before. My economy is not better.
