It means either
1. Rove must spend his time defending himself in court rather than concocting dirty tricks against Democrats; or

2. Bush will have to pardon him up front, which won't look good.

It will also lay to rest the nonsense about this being a trivial matter, as if that hasn't already been refuted.

21. I suspect the following:
If indicted, Rove's attorneys will be able to stall and stall and stall until Bush is out of office. In the meantime, Rove will stay at work in the WH and continue doing what he always does. Bush will say he doesn't need to quit because he is innocent until proven guilty in a trial and convicted.

In other words, Bush will once again tell the American public: FUCK YOU!!!

1. It gets the architect off the latest shoddy construction job, for a start
He'll be too busy trying to save his ass to devote his full attention to stealing elections.

It will put his cohorts in fear, worrying that he might give them up in exchange for leniency (or to suggest that all of his nefarious deeds were freelance efforts, without approval from on high); or throw them to the wolves because he knows he can be pardoned.

And speaking of fear, seeing as we have all been living in it since Monkey took the throne, it's rather rich that the vibe is reflecting back on them, for a change.

not to be some actionable outcome.

I got the notion they weren't in there that many times for that long to play bridge.

The elves haven't reported in on this one yet, but unless Fitzerald is a bridge freak and just loves to entertain in legal circles, my hunch is that Karl Rove is in a spot of trouble.

If there is an indictment -- that 'if' looms big I concede -- then Rove would be under tremendous pressure to resign. If he does not, or if Bush tries to retain him, the outcry from Congress, including Republicans, would be deafening.

If Rove goes, Bush is more wounded than he ever imagined he would be, and his reason would likely become unhinged. It's already marginal. The booze and antidepressants intake increase and pretty soon he's carried away to an asylum, preferrably in the Seychelles.

6. Rove being indicted
would mean that the stealing of elections (something he's a veritable master at) will be left to people with a lot less experience. The dirty tricks won't be as smooth, the buy-offs will be a lot sloppier and the American Public, faced with an avalanche of new, irrefutable evidence as to how Repugs DO steal elections, will finally realize that maybe perhaps those damn Libs weren't just all a bunch of whining, crybabies and maybe perhaps just possibly 2000, 2002 and 2004 WERE rigged for Bush and his cronies!

Just a thought ...

7. I'm putting my money on-
They will never bring out the "cuffs". If it does get that close, there will be another catastrophe or the whole bunch will charter one big plane out of here. Not a single person in this whole administration will ever be arrested or incarcerated for any crime including the deaths of 2400 american soldiers for oil and money!
YOU CAN BET ON IT, but there won't be any odds!

19. Huh? David Safavian
head of Procurement Policy at OMB and a senior Whitehouse aid was arrested, as was Lewis Libby, the VP's chief of staff, and a very senior WH official. Now they may or may not spend time in jail, but both have been indicted on criminal charges. My money's on the same thing happening to Rove.

And it makes it just that much easier to defeat Gooper congresscritters, who'll be trying to assert their "independence" from Bush.

17. He won't indict Rove unless he thinks he can get Rove to talk
as a condition for a plea bargain, and that's a prtty big "if." Right now, he's just letting him sweat.

This supposes that Fitzgerald's reputation as an honest prosecutor is an accurate one and that he's not doing damage control to protect the top two thugs.
