Chips down, Bush prepares a Hail Mary bet
It's just like playing blackjack in Vegas.

Invariably, sitting right next to you is some guy, eyes shifty and body twitchy and making weird sounds with his mouth and smelling vaguely of sawdust and horse manure and dead dreams, with a huge pile of chips he is quickly turning into a very small pile of chips.

He is suffering. He is playing terribly, grumbling, sneering at the dealer, talking to the cards like they were his personal slutty harem, complaining to his very angry God who is apparently no longer coming through for him. He is getting desperate. He is sweating, glancing around, wondering where all his drunken fraternity friends scurried off to.

Soon he is down to his last chips. He makes one final stab, but his final bet tanks. He is out, the pile is gone.

1. I think Tony Snow with help his ratings--he has that TV image and is
clear and articulate (even if you disagree with his mentality)

3. I disagree
At this point, short of a media-splashy capture of bin Laden, nothing can help his ratings. Most people are not so blind, deaf and dumb as to be blinded by a Snow job.... even the WH press corps.

4. I will not watch
I can't bear to think how the WH press corps will cave to Tony's smile and the plethora of little jokes he will make. They all like him and I'm sure won't take advantage that he apparently is dumb as a toad and if they had any balls they could make mincemeat of him. They all want to be 'liked', except for Helen who, of course, is the only one with balls. LOL.

5. Let's hope that Chimpy's last chip is not radioactive.

7. Wow, Morford really nailed it with that one.
Now if we can only start finding similar items in Texas newspapers....

These days Dubya's behavior is reminding me of an old proverb I heard somewhere: "Everyone is good for something -- even if it's only to serve as a bad example."

I don't know if there's any hope for politics in this country anymore or not. But at least there's some comfort in realizing that for a long time to come, most sensible people with political ambitions will probably be doing things just the opposite of how Dubya's been doing them.
