Colbert just beat the living hell out of William Kristol
and The PNAC!

It was glorious!

Colbert's VERY first question was, 'You're a member of the PNAC, The Project for a New American Century... How's that going?'.

Find the replay, it's worth it.

22. Yeah, Colbert says-- re PNAC
So, hows that project going?

Kristol says nothing-- then says something like-- "sorry, I'm speechless." I was stomping my feet and wildly howling at that point so I am not entirely sure what came after.

Mr. Colbert-- you're my Papa Bear.

47. He said...
Colbert asked if he was part of the PNAC, and Kristol said, "I am" and Colbert tried to clarify by asking him "was or is now" and he fumbled a bit but still acknowledged he was PNAC. He tried to say it was just a few people, then Colbert named off the whole pack and Kristol didn't deny it. Colbert got him to admit the PNAC was going good for them, Kristol said they "had to fight back after 911."

Colbert really disassembled the guy. He was fumbling all over the place.

50. Did you hear him say
he wants to take out the Sudan? Where did that come from? I love how Colbert got him to reveal his real agenda - we need to take out every dictator, we need to invade Iran (& Sudan), we need to have a draft, we need more military & more wars; oh, but, I was too young at 19 to ever go to war myself. Classic chickenhawk.

There was a huge show of support for her and if that didn't do the job to convince her that their were just a few obnoxious detractors, I don't know what else we could do. I did plenty of praising of her posts all the time.

55. I share with you, Diane
I share your pain. I share your feelings about war. I wish with all my heart no family would ever have to go through this again.

For 35 years I could not bear looking at my brother's death. Not to say I forgot him, I've never. But then I felt this huge urge to find out what happened. Thanks to the Internet, I was able to research and find not only the info on the operation he was in but my daughter actually tracked down members of his unit and the man who was with him when he was killed.

I have documented his death and that of his brothers on a site called www.operationhastings.com and I extend this invitation to you to visit. Some of my family cannot even stand the pain of going to this site while others have found it very healing.

I am so against Viet Nam2 and the madness of this pResident. The people who can't even consider the pain a family feels as a result. All these soldiers and Marines are nothing more to them but a statistic.

58. It took me over 25 years for my first visit. It wasn't easy.
My distant cousin's name is on The Wall - same time I was there, same last name and first two initials as mine. (I never met him.) There are guys who were killed in the same actions in which I was involved - guys whose faces I'd probably recognize but whose names I never knew. Thankfully, none of the guys I was close to were killed. It's an eerie feeling - maybe like flying almost too close to the sun. The feeling of overwhelming loss is still profound. Fewer than one million of us left and getting fewer every day. What a fucking waste! :puke:

July 24th, 1966 in a battle called Operation Hastings. That was the then to-date worst casualty loss for the USMC. I invite you to visit my site: www.operationhastings.com if you are so inclined. A tribute to my brother and the men who fell with him.

This summer I'll again go to the reunion of the men of his company. I have had the honor of meeting the man who was with him moments before he died and heard the whole story in detail.

Edited on Thu Apr-27-06 11:17 PM by Minnesota_Lib
I just wish Colbert would have pressed the issue by quoting out of the PNAC where they said we should invade Iraq regardless if Saddam was still in power or not, and then followed up with a quote about controlling Iraqi oil. That would have really rocked.

But as it is, that was the very first time I have seen anyone on TV ask any of the PNAC signatories about it and it was great.

13. It was terrific. Kristol was dumbstruck.
Colbert just kept on slugging - all in that ironic parody of a neocon that's impossible for them to counter. It takes very little to magnify their insane postures and show them for the whack-jobs they are. It's almost impossible to differentiate between a parody and their psychopathic rantings so Kristol was left without either defense (against what?) or offense (against what?) in his arsenal of lunatic talking points - Colbert just loaded 'em up and flung 'em at him. Kristol looked like the malodorous, vacuous dolt he really is.

Colbert is a genius at what he does, and hilarious, but couldn't anybody here savage these people just

people who ask good questions and followups.

38. No, because this is satire. This takes real talent.
And practice, actually.

He is doing it through his character- the "neo-neo-con," as he put it.

He's not just asking questions to hear their response- he KNOWS their response, already. He's making FUN of them.

cause it catches them so off-guard. They have no idea how to answer & sometimes actually end up resorting to the truth. He's gotten more honest answers out of these people than any actual "journalist." The talking points are just useless against satire.

they can roll out the talking points and those are nearly impossible to defeat in a 5 minute segment but the way Colbert did it made him look like a jackass in about 1 minute. If you fight it, you are just fighting yourself and if you go along with it, you look even more insane than you are.
